  1. ÇUKUROVA INTA ComparisonQuickbird & IKONOS Collection capabilities Geometric resolution Space Systems, Inc.

  2. Swathwidth and strip length IKONOS: 11 km swathwidth X (up to) 1,000 km strip length = 11,000 sq km Quickbird: 16.5 km swathwidth X up to 165 km strip length = 2,725 sq km

  3. Revisit frequency • IKONOS revisits area every 2.75 days • Quickbird revisits area every 4.0 days • at 30° latitude • max. 30° obliquity

  4. Case (revisit frequency) • Customer needs a high-res multispectral image from May of parcels in Egypt . • IKONOS can do 11/12 acquisition attempts in May. • Quickbird can do 7/8 acquisition attempts • Critical for cloudy areas Maximum obliquity of 30° at 30° latitude And… IKONOS can collect 4 – 5 times more area per opportunity.

  5. Maneuver capability1 IKONOS superior compared to Quickbird

  6. Maneuver capability2 And… Quickbrid, at a lower orbit altitude than IKONOS, needs to maneuver thru a greater angle for the same target to target (see ‘X’) = Additional 20% loss due to greater maneuver angles at lower altitude X X X X X * Assumes: 20 km long AOI’s, spaced +/- 250km cross track (60 deg slew for QB, 40 deg for IKONOS)

  7. IKONOS Quickbird Access Time to AOI Access time over area • IKONOS has longer access time over an area than Quickbird • Due to higher orbit altitude • Enabling large area collections

  8. IKONOS has 4X the AOI Collection Capability as Quickbird on Any Given Pass Average Pass 4X Scan 1 Scan 2 IKONOS 104 km Long x 49.6 wide 5154 Unique sq km QUICKBIRD 36 x 36 km 1340 Unique sq km Scan 1 Scan 2 Scan 3 Scan 4 This Results from: Higher Orbital Altitude Longer Access time Greater Agility Bi Directional Scanning Higher Imaging Rate and More Frequent Revisit (45%): >5X long term AOI Collection Wider Swath is Only a Small Part of the Collection Capability Equation

  9. (smart) Tasking of the satellite • Collection schedule can be changed up to 10 minutes before the pass • Weather changes on METEOSAT / NOAA imagery • inserting rush orders This greatly improves collection efficiency. Also: • Customer operations 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week available • True rush delivery: rush collection, FTP

  10. Conclusions • The total collection capabilities of IKONOS are better than Quickbird’s. • IKONOS in all 4 satellite related factors (revisit frequency, access time over area and maneuver capability). • The IKONOS satellite is operated more efficiently, due to the use of ROC’s (at strategic locations over the globe). • The (average) delivery time of IKONOS imagery is shorter and more reliable. • In particular in the ROC’s regions.
