  3. The Upper Room DiscourseJohn 13-16

  4. John 13:18 3) God's Omniscience does not hinder or violate human volition.(Summary)

  5. 1) "I do not speak of all of you".A reference to Judas Iscariot, an unbeliever, influenced by Satan and about to be possessed by him.

  6. Advanced doctrine is not intended for the unbeliever. He is only able understand the gospel message.

  7. 2) "I know the ones I have chosen". a) Jesus Christ is God, co-equal with the Father and Spirit.

  8. b) He is demonstrating His Sovereignty, to choose the believer out from unbelievers, and His Omniscience - knowing who is and is not saved.

  9. c) Through the sovereignty, righteousness and justice of God we have been elected from eternity past, which is made effective at the moment we believe in Christ.

  10. d) God’s Divine Decree via the Doctrine of Lapsarianism gives us the appropriate order of God's elective decree - Infralapsarianism.

  11. Infralapsarianism:1. God decreed to create all mankind.2. God decreed to permit the fall.

  12. 3. God decreed to provide salvation for all mankind (unlimited atonement).

  13. 4. God decreed to elect some from among fallen mankind, and to leave others in their sin (those who will not believe in Christ).

  14. 5. God decreed to save the elect through faith in Christ, (i.e. to apply salvation to those who believe).

  15. 3) "He who eats My bread has lifted up his heel against Me."Our Lord prophesied Judas' ensuing betrayal - Doctrine of Betrayal.

  16. 4) "But it is that the Scripture may be fulfilled.”

  17. Fulfilled means "implementation". What the prophets of the Old Testament spoke about The Christ must come to fruition.

  18. Scripture cannot lie. It is impossible for God to lie; it is impossible for God’s Word to lie with regard to a principle, a concept or a promise.

  19. Over 300 prophecies regarding our Lord. Over 30 fulfilled in one day.

  20. Prophecies Prophecy FulfillmentBetrayed by a Friend Psalm 41:9 Matthew 10:4

  21. Psa 41:9, “Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.”

  22. Prophecies Prophecy FulfillmentBetrayed by a Friend Psalm 41:9 Matt 10:4 Sold for 30 Pieces of Silver Zech 11:12 Matt 26:15Money to Be Thrown into God’s House Zech 11:13 Matt 27:5Price Given for Potter’s Field Zech 11:13 Matt 27:7Forsaken by His Disciples Zech 13:7 Mark 14:50Accused By False Witnesses Psalm 35:11 Matt 26:59-60Silent Before Accusers Isaiah 53:7 Matt 27:12

  23. 5) “Lifted up his heel against me”.It means to overthrow, to seek one’s destruction, or to reject authority.

  24. In Gen 3:14-15, because Satan instigated the first betrayal in the human race, our Lord cursed him and foretold of the damage he would cause Him, "bruised on the heel".

  25. Genesis 3 also prophesizes of Satan's impending doom, "bruise you on the head", a mortal blow.

  26. In John 13 there is one present that has rejected the authority of Jesus Christ. Judas pretended to love Him, but our Lord knew his true heart.
