Usos del Subjuntivo. Español 4H Capítulos 5 y 6. Usos del Subjuntivo. El subjuntivo se usa para expresar DUDA. Algunas palabras que se usan para expresar duda son: TAL VEZ, ACASO y QUIZÁ . (Perhaps, Maybe). “Tal vez llegue a tiempo” Perhaps I will get on time.

  2. Usos del Subjuntivo. • El subjuntivo se usa para expresar DUDA. • Algunas palabras que se usan para expresar duda son: TAL VEZ, ACASO y QUIZÁ. (Perhaps, Maybe). “Tal vez llegue a tiempo” Perhaps I will get on time. “Acaso Los Giants ganen la Superbowl”. Giants may win the Superbowl.

  3. Usos del Subjuntivo. • Tal vez, Acaso y Quizás expresan duda, por eso usamos SUBJUNTIVO. “Quizá no tengamos clase mañana por la nieve” We may not have school tomorrow because of the snow. BUT When the idea expressed is very probable or definite the INDICATIVE is used: “Tal vez salen temprano, como siempre”. Perhaps they are leaving early, like always.

  4. Usos del Subjuntivo • Always with OJALÁ (I wish/I hope). “Ojalá que no nieve mañana”. I hope it does not snow tomorrow.

  5. Usos del Subjuntivo. EL SUBJUNTIVO EN CLÁUSULAS NOMINALES OR NOUN CLAUSES. • The subjunctive is used in dependent noun clauses when they function like the SUBJECT or OBJECT of a verb. • They are always introduced by QUE “Es dudoso que él sea rico” “Es dudoso QUE ÉL SEA RICO”: Subject. “Esperamos que salgan pronto” Esperamos QUE SALGAN PRONTO”: Direct Object.

  6. Usos del Subjuntivo. • Don’t be WORRIED, it is only Subjunctive! El Profesor quiere que los estudiantes lleguen pronto. Ojalá que no tengamos clase en abril. Recomiendo que estudies para el examen de subjuntivo. Mi madre siempre me pide que no conduzca por la noche. ES importante que escuches música en español. Estoy contento de que tu clase favorita sea la clase de español. Dudo que los estudiantes de 4h corten la clase.

  7. Usos del Subjuntivo. The subjunctive is used when the Main verb expresses: Wishing or Wanting: Desear. Querer, preferir, esperar, insistir en. Ojalá (que): I wish/ I hope. Request: Pedir, mandar,ordenar exigir. Recommendation: Recomendar, sugerir, aconsejar. Impersonal Expressions: Es posible, es necesario, es dudoso, es bueno, es mejor, es importante… Emotion: alegrarse, estar contento de, estar nervioso, triste… Doubt or Denial: dudar, no creer, negar, no es cierto, no es verdad…

  8. Usos del Subjuntivo • Completa: • Me molesta que… • El director exige que… • Temo que mis amigos… • Aconsejo a los estudiantes de 3H que… • La Sra. Manso está contenta que… • Es muy importante que los chicos/chicas… • Ojalá que… • Dudo que la Sra. Manso…

Usos del Subjuntivo. • Subjuntivo o Infinitivo: • Some verbs of ordering, forcing, permitting, and preventing take more commonly an infinitive with an indirect object instead of the subjunctive: “Te aconsejo estudiar/ te aconsejo que estudies”. “Mi madre me manda llegar a casa a las 11/ mi madre me manda que llegue a las 11”. • IF the subject of the dependent clause is different from the main clause USE SUBJUNCTIVE: “Quiero comprar una casa”. “Quiero que mis padres compren una casa”.

  10. Indicativo o Subjuntivo. • Verbs like creer, darse cuenta, saber or pensar always take indicative because “ if you think it, there’s no doubt”. “Creo que ella vive en España”.

  11. Indicativo o Subjuntivo. Creer y pensar en negativo e interrogativo siempre con SUBJUNTIVO. (there is doubt) “No creo que ella viva en España.” “¿Piensas que todos pasemos el examen?”

  12. Indicativo o Subjuntivo. • Expresiones como Es verdad, es cierto, es obvio tienen SUBJUNTIVO en negativo. Es cierto que ella habla español. PERO No es verdad que ella hable español.

  13. Indicativo o Subjuntivo. • Los verbos ESCRIBIR y DECIR toman subjuntivo cuando es un mandato: • MI madre dice que hace buen tiempo. • PERO • Mi madre dice que haga la tarea todos los días. • EL profesor escribe en la página web que escribamos el blog.

  14. Usos del Subjuntivo. Traduce: • My parents think I am smart. • Do you think Sra. Manso knows the principal? • I don’t think my mother orders my brother to buy at the supermarket. • I wish I win the lottery. • I suggest all the Spanish students to watch tv in Spanish. • I advise my cousin not to go out with that crazy girl.
