This course is interactive, which enables participants to bring the material to life and make it practical for day-to-day care provision. • The ADODCC course: • Provides a holistic, person-centered philosophy to understanding dementia. • Focuses on strategies to help with the activities of daily living;. • Aids caregivers and care providers in their efforts to maintain a person's identity, dignity, and self-esteem. • Is founded on the philosophy that quality care of persons with dementia involves an interdisciplinary team approach. Educationmakes aDifference • In 2008, the Nova Scotia Centre on Aging, Mount Saint Vincent University was contracted to assist the ADODCC Committee in revitalizing the Care Course. The revised course, released January 2009, further emphasizes person-centered care and the importance of team approach. The new content focuses on: • Working with families • Mental illness and dementia • Dementia and sexuality • Oral health • Falls prevention • P.I.E.C.E.S. and U-First!
