  1. Question One: Answer the author's question that is found on the dedication page.  "If the sum of my nieces and nephews equals 15, and their product equals 54, and I have more nephews than nieces, how many nieces is this book dedicated to? What strategies might help you solve this problem?

  2. I wake up at 7:15.  It takes me 10 minutes to get dressed, 15 minutes to eat my breakfast, and 1 minute to brush  my teeth.  If the bus leaves at 8:00, will I make it on time? What strategy would best work for this problem? Working backwards?

  3. I take the milk out for my cereal and wonder... How many quarts are in a gallon?  How many pints are in a quart?  How many cups are in a gallon?

  4. There are 24 kids in my class and I just know that someone is going to bring in cupcakes.  We sit in four rows with six desks in each row.  What is the area of the desk arrangement?  How would the area change if the number of rows were doubled? Draw a Picture to Solve the Problem?
