SOCIAL CONTRACTS • When people come together to form a social unit, they agree to renounce some individual rights for the rights obtained in the group. • Expl: US Constitution – “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constirution for the United States of America.”

SOCIAL CONTRACTS • What guidelines will help support our goals this week? • What specific group behaviors will help us meet our goals? • What group agreements would be necessary to guide our group that will help us work together smoothly and safely so that everyone will have a good chance to achieve his/her goals? • Jot down some ideas, then discuss with partner.

  5. ACCOUNTABILITY • What should we do to ensure all our member are successful in abiding by our Social Contract? • How can we help one another be successful? • How should we hold ourselves accountable?

MOTIVATION: INSTILLING HOPE WITHIN • MOTIVATION BLOCKERS: • Some students cannot picture themselves as successful in school • Many do not feel they have EVER been successful at anything! • FEAR of failure stands in the way of doing well in school. • FEAR can be disguised and can wear many masks….. name some!
