  2. characteristics • Common symptoms of CF are frequent lung infections, failure to digest food, failure to gain weight, and frequent colds. • Lung infections: Thick mucus blocks the patients air passageways resulting in coughing, lung infections, and wheezing. • Failure to digest food: Plugs of mucus may prevent the pancreas from obtaining digestive enzymes.

  3. DIAGNOSIS • Doctors can diagnosis a patient with CF by conducting a sweat test. • A sweat test is when a doctor applies a medicine, used to make people sweat, to their skin. • Patients who have CF have a higher sodium chloride concentrate in their perspiration.

  4. CAUSES • A person who inherits a pair of abnormal CFTR genes, chromosome 7, can’t absorb chloride into their cells and will have CF.

  5. preventions • There are no ways to prevent CF. • Although, people can get tested to see if they are carriers of it before they conceive.

  6. CURES • There are no cures for CF yet. • But doctors can prescribe antibiotics to fight the lung infections. • And digestion can be improved by special diet.

  7. TREATMENTS • Gentle pounding on the chest loosens mucus buildup in the air passageways.
