Mission To assist the Department in achieving and maintaining the fair and equal treatment and meaningful involvement of North Carolinians regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies. Establishment of the Committee Department of Environmental Quality One doctoral level economist, sociologist, public health scientist, or environmental scientist One doctoral level epidemiologist employed by state or federal gov. Two Native American representatives One Hispanic/Latino individual One member of Asian decent One member who is currently at or a recent grad of a NC college/university Four rep. of environmental organizations or other community organizations One rep. from the NC chapter of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People One rep. from either the NC League of Municipalities or the NC Regional Councils of Gov. One rep. with knowledge of nutritional disparity issues

Function Board shall meet at least four times per year which will be called by the Secretary To assist the Department in achieving thefair and equal treatment and meaningful involvement of all North Carolinians To advise the Secretary on the consistent implementation of fair treatment and meaningful involvement of NC citizens including permits, innovation, and mitigation of contaminant exposures to human health and the environment  To advise the Secretary on the integration of environmental justice and equity considerations into Departmental programs, policies and activities

  6. Subcommittees • Extreme Weather Resilience and Smart Rebuild as a Result of Climate Change:Advise on how to better build community awareness and participation around the impacts of extreme weather in North Carolina as it relates to programs, policies, and activities within the Department. • Renewable Energy Transition:Advise on policy recommendations to create a process for consistent engagement between communities and the Department to advance the agency’s mission as it relates to renewable energy.  • Clean Water/Clean Air:Advise on process for consistent implementation of fair treatment and meaningful involvement regarding new and ongoing complex permits, along with ongoing and future mitigation of contaminant exposures to the environment, health and prosperity of all North Carolinians • Cumulative Impacts: Advise on how to implement a fair, equal, and meaningful community and health focus around cumulative impact. Secretary’s Requests Department of Environmental Quality Extreme Weather Resilience and Smart Rebuild as a Result of Climate Change: How can DEQ build better community awareness and participation around the impacts of extreme weather in North Carolina as it relates to programs, policies, and activates within the Department? Cumulative Impacts: How can DEQ better create community awareness for North Carolinians as it relates to programs under the Departments purview?
