  1. Standard Place Value PartitioningStage 7Parents and students please keep in mind that at stage 7 children are working with decimal numbers. Not only do they need to know how the strategy works but they need to understand the concept that decimals are parts of (or less than) a whole number and need to be able to express or explain this knowledge when asked. Being able to use the strategy itself is great and indeed promoted and encouraged but it may not necessarily mean that the user of the strategy is at stage 7. There are many facets that each child needs to have a command of and this is just one in the building process.

  2. 10th’s Whole numbers 100th’s Split each number into whole numbers, tenths and hundredths 4.37 + 3.57(4 + 3) + (0.3 + 0.5) + ( 0.07 + 0.07)7 + (0.80 + 0.14)7 + 0.94 = 7.94
