Dialogue—write this down… • Punctuation • “Have a great day,” I said. • “Where,” I said, “do you think you’re going?” • I said, “Have a great day.” • I smiled as I spoke to Winston. “I love you.” • “I love you.” It wasn’t easy saying it, but I did. “I love you,” I said again. • Paragraphing • The general rule is to always start a new paragraph for each new speaker.

  3. Read Let it Snow (pg.88) • As you read (aloud with your partner), write down the subject of each paragraph. • The goal, once again, is to understand how the author is moving from one thought/event to the next. This is important because you will be expected to have a clear sequence of events with strong transitions. • Identify two paragraphs that use dialogue, and then decide which of the examples from slide two the dialogue in the paragraph resembles most.

  4. Exposition • How is this story using exposition? • Point to one place where the author provides personal insight into what is going on in the story.

  5. Mac Lab: Due Monday or Tuesday • While at the Mac Lab your objective is to: • Choose a moment from your past that involves at least you and one other person. • Write a two to three paragraph scene that both allows each character to speak at least once in the paragraph and provides additional descriptions of what is going on while avoiding “to be” verbs as well as interpretation.
