  1. Autonomous Tracking System (ATS) EDSGN 100, Section 002, Group 8 Pat Vander Neut, Cris Henderson, Dan Weinman, Allen Black, Christian Dorflinger

  2. The Problem • Difficulty spotting hazardous objects and obstacles in Military convoys (blackout conditions) • Sensor system capable of: • Detecting position, distance, and formation of convoy • Detecting hazards in route and notifying drivers The Need

  3. Mission • Detect hazards • Notify drivers of road conditions • Allow time to react • Maintain formation of convoy • Efficiency • Durability • Accuracy

  4. Sensor Placement Matrix

  5. Sensor Placement Matrix (weighted)

  6. Sensor Type Matrix

  7. Sensor Type Matrix (weighted)

  8. AESA Sensors • Active Electronically Scanned Array • New, developed for Air Force and naval Use • Innovations in: • detection • targeting • tracking • self-protection capabilities

  9. Advantages of AESA • Detection through numerous small transmit/receive (T/R) modules • Short to instantaneous (millisecond) scanning rates • Low probability of intercept • Several Detection modes- allows detection of Specific objects/surfaces • Energy efficient

  10. Uses

  11. Maintaining Formation • Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system • IR emitters tuned to night-vision wavelengths • Can only be detected using same wavelength • Determines position of Humvees in convoy • Range: up to 8km

  12. Driver Notification • Interactive notification screen • Voice warnings • Flash warnings • User-friendly monitor • Keep track of: • Position • Hazards • Speed • Direction

  13. 25.0m +1.50km/h Lead Humvee 50.0km/h 0.0km/h 25.0km/h

  14. Humvee Sensor Setup

  15. IED Detection

  16. The Convoy

  17. The End • Thank You For Listening • Special Thanks To: • Xinli Wu • BAE Systems • And yes, it is dumpling maker compatible

  18. DMS Dumpling Maker System (DMS)
