Project Overview • What special background knowledge is needed to understand your experiment? • What prompted you to do your research? • Remember that should be in bullet format and should have just short phrases that remind you of what you need to say during this slide. • YOU SHOULD NOT BE READING SLIDES!!!

Background Research • Summarize your background research here in three to five bullet points: • 1st bullet point • 2nd bullet point • 3rd bullet point • 4th bullet point • 5th bullet point • These are simple summary sentences related to your background research. Your points should not be longer than 15 words each. • Remember you should tell us about your independent variable and your dependent variable. • Imagine that we have no idea what you are presenting to us, make it simple, clear, and to the point.

  5. Identified Variables • Controlled variables: This is the scenario you used as your comparison. (if your experiment did not have a control explain why)...THESE ARE NOT CONSTANTS!! • Independent variable: The one variable that you purposely change and test. • Dependent variable: The measure of change observed because of the independent variable. It is important to decide how you are going to measure the change.

  6. Hypothesis • Based on the research you have done, you will be writing an answer or solution – your best educated guess – to your question. Make sure you write down your hypothesis before you begin your experiment. • If ____, then _____, because _______. • Great place to insert some of your experiment pictures.

  7. Materials • Type a detailed list of the items you needed to complete your experiments. (NOT PARAGRAPH like the RESEARCH PAPER in MATERIALS & METHODS SECTION) • Be specific about the amounts used. • Include pictures or diagrams of your materials.

  8. Methods • List all of the steps used in completing your experiment. • Remember to number your steps. (NOT PARAGRAPHS like your RESEARCH PAPER METHODS SECTION) • include pictures of you following your steps • These procedures should be clear and easy to follow. It needs to be in list format and you do not need to tell us every detail, you can summarize steps when you present, but all steps need to be on the slide.

  12. Conclusion • Type a brief summary here of what you discovered based on the results of your experiments. • You MUST indicate whether or not the data supports the hypothesis and explain why or why not. • You MUST include how what you research is useful to society or the world.
