  1. Course Description: Physical Education The goal of the West Bend High Schools PE program is to provide students with a the knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes necessary to choose, maintain, and enhance a healthy active lifestyle.

  2. Freshmen Physical Education -PE 9 All incoming freshmen will be required to take PE Fitness For Life and pass the course to take any other PE course.

  3. Current Courses offered in Physical Education at the High Schools* Team Sports-VB, BB,FB and more… Personal Fitness-develop your own program Lifetime Activities-Tennis, Disc Golf, and more… Adventure Education-Wall climbing/Ropes Course and more… Strength and Conditioning I and II *A student must pass Freshmen PE 9 to be able to take a course

  4. Class Rules: • Students will respect the instructor, fellow students, and equipment. • Students will be in your assigned locker room before the final bell. Tardies will be counted if you arrive after the bell rings. • Any tardy will have to have a pass from previous class or office. • Students will be changed into PE attire; shorts/sweatpants, t-shirts, and athletic shoes. • Students will follow all district & school policies. • It is strongly recommended that the students purchase a Heart Rate Monitor strap. They are available at the bookkeeper. • NO Cell phones will be allowed in class.

Grading Policy • Students will receive a daily grade out of 10 points : • 6 points of those points will come from how many minutes the student is in their zone. • 4 points will come from the Game Play Rubric • Each unit will conclude with a written test which will be 10% of their unit grade. HRM MinutesHeart Rate Zone 125-200 beats /minute 20 minutes - 6 points 17-19 minutes – 5 points 13-16 minutes – 4 points 9-12 minutes – 3 points 5-8 minutes – 2 points 1-4 minutes – 1 point 0 minutes – 0 points

Dress Policy • In order to receive full points for participation for the day, students must do the following: • Wear the HRM at all times during class period. • Have the proper athletic shoes for activity. • Be ready to participate in activity. • If a student forgets their clothes, BUT has the appropriate athletic shoes on, they will be able to participate in the activity, but they MUST still wear their HRM. • If a student refuses to participate in class even though they have proper shoes, the student will receive a zero for that day of activity.

  8. Physical Education Classes • You will be dismissed from your activity to change 7 to 8 minutes before the bell rings. • Do NOT leave until your teacher has read your HRM and dismissed you from their class. • Tardy = TBA points per time. • NO backpacks brought to class. • Lock your backpack up in your PE locker or in your main school locker. • “I don’t have time”, or “ it doesn’t fit” is not an excuse. • NO Cell phones in class-WBSD district policy. • iPods-see your instructor for when to be able to use them in class. • (having an iPod is at your own risk, it may be taken if set down or forgotten in class, the instructor is not responsible for them.)

  9. Consequences: 1st Warning: Student will be spoken too. 2nd Warning: Student will be spoken to and parent will be called. 3rd Warning: Parent call, student spoken to and given a detention. 4th Warning: Referred to Administration/office and student may be removed from the class.

  10. Locks for the PE lockers • We recommend you purchase a lock for PE classes. • If you do not lock your things up they will be probably stolen. • Theft is a major problem in the locker room area. • The locker room is locked during the period and you will not have access to it during class unless for special circumstances. • The athletic locker room is locked during the day and you will not have access during the school day unless for special circumstance. (see your instructor).

  11. Times to do PE Make ups are: • Thursday’ s after school in the Fitness Center (2:45-3:15) Need to wear a HRM and be in your zone. (20 minutes). • Monday thru Friday before school in the Fitness Center (6:30-7:00) • Tuesday and/or Thursday before school in the swimming pool (6:30-7:15).

  12. Absents/Preplans/Medicals • All absences/medicals need to be made up in order to earn points. • Any students who are absent due to illness/preplan/medical must make up the classes within the current unit. (Unless arrangements are made with instructor) • Any class not made up will result in a zero for that day missed. • All medicals, the student will have to make arrangements with the instructor on how the classes will be made up.

  13. Other Information for students and parents Students must complete all the fitness tests to the best of their ability. Fitness testing will take place once a semester. Results of student fitness profiles will be sent home for the parent to view. Fitness tests: Pacer – 30 points Sit & Reach – 10 points Push ups – 10 points Curl ups – 10 points Other tests that will be given are Bicep strength & BMI.

  14. Swimming Requirement for all Students Swimming: The WB PE department believes that swimming is an important part of the student’s PE experience. There is one unit of swimming in each of the course offerings (a nine/ten day unit). The student will leave the high school knowing basic swimming skills and water safety. Students must bring their own towels and appropriate swim suits.
