  1. QuickTool 8 Submit Winning NMA Awards Nominations SUMMARY: Each year, chapters and councils can nominate individuals for national-level awards that are presented at the association’s Annual Conference. These competitive awards are the Executive of the Year (EOY), Member of the Year (MOY) and Hall of Fame (HOF). These nominations are evaluated by members of the Recognition Committee, and need to be submitted to NMA HQ by April 15. Councils may give one Gold Knight of Management Award (GK) each year to an outstanding leader; and chapters may give one Silver Knight of Management Award (SK) each year to an outstanding leader. The GK and SK awards aren’t competitive awards but a nomination is required to be submitted to NMA HQ for approval by the NMA President. Except for the MOY Award, nominees don’t have to be members of NMA. FUNDING: There aren’t any costs to chapters or councils for writing the winning nomination for the EOY, MOY, or HOF Award. NMA HQ bears the financial burden for these NMA individual awards. However, the GK Award costs a council $175 and the SK Award costs a chapter $175. These funds can be generated from member fees or from conducting fundraisers such as a Book Fair or selling items such as Entertainment Books available at http://www.fundraising.entertainment.com and customized bears available from Plushland, Inc. by calling (888) 500-8697. REQUIREMENTS: For each EOY, MOY, or HOF nominee you wish to nominate, you must use the official nomination form supplied on NMA’s Website. These forms can be found at: http://nma1.org/Downloads/Downloads.html. Winning nomination packages for the competitive NMA individual awards are a result of gathering facts and information on the individuals, as well as taking sufficient time to prepare a good write-up. It is estimated that at least 35-50 volunteer hours are required to gather facts and write a complete nomination. The GK and SK write-ups take about 5-10 volunteer hours because they aren’t competitive awards; but the nominations need to be coordinated by the assigned director. PROCESS: It is important to fill out all application blocks in the official nomination form, since all completed blocks add to the evaluation score. It’s also important to stay within the boundaries of the each nomination form block because the information is truncated, which means it isn’t readable. You should start early (at least 75 days before the April 15 deadline), so nominations can be refined, improved, and coordinated with chapter officers and the assigned director. There isn’t a standard format for the GK or SK nominations, but the write-ups should be limited to no more than two typed double spaced pages. They can be submitted to NMA HQ at any time during the year, but must be received at least 60 days before the anticipated presentation. Rev 11-11
