La mononucleosis infecciosa (MI) es una enfermedad linfoproliferativa de resolución espontánea y benigna  causada por la infección con el virus de Epstein Barr (EBV).      Afecta generalmente a niños, adolescentes y adultos jóvenes.     También es conocida como la Enfermedad del beso, fiebre de los enamorados o el Síndrome viral de Epstein-Barr.

  3. MECANISMO DE LA INFECCIÓN qTiene tropismo por los linfocitos B, las células del epitelio oral y del cuello uterino. qEBV + cell B (CD 21) = CD 23      Se incorpora al linfocito B y se producen proteinas del EBV, este se conserva en el núcleo del linfocito y pasa a los descendientes qEsta presente en líquidos corporales (saliva), también se transmite a través del empleo de utensilios de comida, transfusiones sanguíneas y transplante de médula ósea pEn células epiteliales: Infección Lítica        En células B: Infección latente
