Materials List: ·Goggles ·Sand/Salt Mixture (provided by teacher) ·Test Tubes & Rack ·10 mL Graduated Cylinder ·6 mL of water (250 mL beaker to pour) ·Stirring Rod ·Funnel ·Filter Paper ·Evaporating Dish ·Bunsen Burner and Lighter Ring Stand ·Ceramic Triangle Evaporating / filtering / dissolving

  2. Procedure: ·Using the provided materials list you and your lab partner must come up with a DETAILED procedure you will follow.

  3. Procedure: Dissolving Get goggles and equipment Place sand/salt mixture in a test tube Put water in beaker, and measure 6mL into graduated cylinder. Pour water on sand/salt mixture and stir until salt is dissolved.

  4. Procedure: Filtering 1) Place filter paper into funnel and place funnel over evaporating dish. 2) Pour sand/salt/water mixture through filter paper into evaporating dish. Set sand aside.

  5. Procedure: Evaporating Place evaporating dish on ceramic triangle Heat with Bunsen burner until all water is evaporated (be careful not to burn the salt or get splashed with boiling water). 3) Wash and put away all materials.
