  6. NAMES  We learnt each other's names and talked about them a bit.  We talked about names that run in the family (= are used a lot in the same family) and patron saints and great grandparents (both paternal and maternal). We talked about the origin of surnames and parents and families, and noticed quite a strong link between Cádiz and the North of Spain (and France in J's case), and of fathers moving south, falling in love and staying ;) At the end of the discussion we looked at the pronunciation of the vowels in uncle, cousin and aunt (can you remember them?)

  7. Hi all, my e-mail address is working!I think Ceri you have done a very very good  summary about the last class, and you worked hard with us...it was fun Im going to speak about my family to do the task,,.In my case, my father is from Galicia (i said in the class) and my mother is from Cadiz, I think that idont have any connections with San Fernando, but I know that my mothers family come from Conil de la Frontera and its posible that one of them could come from San Fernando..

  8. 3  ALAMEDA    Juliette shared her photo of the sea walls along the Alameda Apodaca with us.   A beautiful photo and an interesting conversation.  We talked about what to call it, is it a park, a square, a greenspace/area?  I thought maybe it was a kind of park, but Fernando pointed out it doesn't have a fence ... . But we all agreed that it's a lovely place, shady and peaceful in summer, sheltered from the wind, romantic for some but bright and fun too.  We talked about the tiles, and the streetlights and that it was definitely worth it - taking the photo and bringing it into class.  I'm looking forward to more photos.

  9. More about the lesson summaries 3  Images We looked at a slideshow with five images. Can you remember what they were? Can you remember who chose them and why? Look at this list of some of the new words and expressions we collected during the discussion. Can you use them to write a short summary of this part of the lesson?  Thanks!  Can you send a copy to everyone in the group?  Thanks again :) shipyard,  cliffs, tram, Roman period, Roman road, low tide, high tide

  10. Look at this list of some of the new words and expressions we collected during the discussion. Can you use them to write a short summary of this part of the lesson?  Thanks!  Can you send a copy to everyone in the group?  Thanks again :) shipyard,  cliffs, tram, Roman period, Roman road, low tide, high tideWe talk about the Suazo bridge which was built in the Roman period, it`s near to the  San Fernando's shipyard, and the tram which goes to San Fernando is going over that bridge. I said that when there is low tide we see a rocks which were part of the Roman road, and then we knew a new vocabulary: low tide and high tide. We continue seeing a photo with a cliffs and a beach near "Zahara de los Atunes".

  11. The task: A possible task to recycle this vocabulary might be to write about what you like doing at the weekend.  Maybe a short text called “What the weekend means to me”. The response: to me: is time to be with my family or my friends. We meet up  to have breackfast every Saturday morning. We usually eat breackfastchocalate and churros. Children love. During breackfast we decided  we eat/cook to lunch and we go to the center market to buy it. After lunch everybody to do siesta. Later i call phone my friends and we go out  to have a  couple of drinks, i used to go on facebook, surf on internet, send some e-mails. On Sundays i try to do some sport, maybyi play a game of tennis or i go running along the beach.I seeyoulater.

  12. We used to have chocolate and churros for breakfast a lot when we lived in Madrid.  It’s great!  My kids love it too. And I think it’s a great idea to include the kids in deciding what to eat/cook for lunch.  But we never have a siesta after lunch!  My kids are too full of energy to sleep!

  13. I want to thank you for your revision task. Of course! I´ll compare them with mine, of that i´m sure. Then, I used to have chocolate and churros for breakfast. I see that your kids also love it, like mine. Both, You and I consider it´s important to involve children early in life in making  decisions, like: what to cook for dinner tonight, who  cleans the kitchen floor or who put the dishes on the table… ”Well done teacher” . continuo. I´m really love a siesta, a half hour no more, but my kids never have a siesta since their was one or their was very child. You have reason when I wrote “used to” I´d want to say ( to means) I usually go on facebookand surf the internet. When you say you “used to go on facebook”, do you mean, “I usually go on facebook”?  “used to” suggests that it’s something you did in the past, but don’t do anymore.    (I’ve underlined some expressions in my answer - you can compare them with yours – hope that helps! – let me know, it’s a little experiment – thanks!)

  14. Last Wednesday I went to my Madrid. I spend there three days on leaving cv’s. (1) As you know we are in a world crisis and I have to try leaving them in other places (2) . I travelled by bus. It was awful!!! The way out (3) took me 9 hours!!! I stayed those days in a friend’s house. She also is an unemployed (4) and was studying with me at the university. We have been a moral support to each other these days because both are very bored with it!! I arrived at the bus station at midnight. Just as well she went to pick me up there because I was going to take other (5) underground line to get her house. Do you imagine me at another station at 1 pm with my suitcase alone calling my friend asking her if she could say to me (6) where I was??? Lol…joking aside…. (very nice expression :) ) On the First day (7) was very tired. I chose the wrong shoes to walk!!! Apart to (8) leaving cv’s I was in the city center the second day at night. I met other friend there. I was 2 moths I didn’t see him. (9)  We were in few typical bars having “cañas” before going to a vegetarian restaurant to dinner. In those bars we had the cañasat the bar but, we had the dinner sit at the restaurant. When we had a rest we sit (sat)  on a bench and looked at the people on the streets. They went and back (10) very quickly!! Simply…It’s Madrid!! I love it!! Friday…because of on Friday afternoon the companies are closed, we were on the sofa! We were at home watching on the TV a learning English channel “AprendeInglés TV” (Vaugham Method) It’s fantastic!! I advice everypeople to watch it or to listen to the radio channel. It’s other (5) way to improve your English in your free time. I usually watch it when I’m doing my houseworks(12)….lol…

  15. Sounds like you had a good weekend, even if it was hard (and sometimes depressing?) work taking your CV all around town!  I know Vaughan Systems too. The radio programme is amazing. It's a very different way to study English - and great to do when you're doing the ironing or the washing up!

(8)  apart from (9)  this is a difficult sentence to put together in English!  I hadn’t seen him for 2 months.

  19. (7)  I was very tired?  or Friday was very tiring?I almost wrote “tiring”!!! I thought about it too much!!! I wanted to talk about the Friday (8)  apart from Ok! (9)  this is a difficult sentence to put together in English!  I hadn’t seen him for 2 months. It’s been a typing mistake…Could be also it said “It was 2 months ago I didn’t see him” too?

  20. (7)  I was very tired?  or Friday was very tiring?I almost wrote “tiring”!!! I thought about it too much!!! I wanted to talk about the Friday… ah, thinking can be very dangerous (8)  apart from Ok! (9)  this is a difficult sentence to put together in English!  I hadn’t seen him for 2 months. It’s been a typing mistake…Could be also it said “It was 2 months ago I didn’t see him” too?No, I’m afraid not. This is one of those ideas that’s expressed very differently in English compared to Spanish. But you could say: The last time I saw him was 2 months ago
