  1. Carolyn Sheppard, Principal August 22, 2013 IMPORTANT NOTICE Principal Gram Welcome Backto a new and exciting school year. Students who are transported by OSB will be dismissed at3:15 pm.   Again this only applies to students that we (OSB) transport. All other students will be dismissed at our regular time each week, which is 3:30 pm.   Reminder: Please assure to check in with our front office, if you have to drop off or pick-up your child during regular school hours(8 am – 4:05 pm / 3:30 on Home Going), e.g. late arrival or leaving early - due to a doctor’s appointment, etc. (Please provide a doctor’s notice as applicable for our files.) Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.   We will be sending home our regular monthly Newsletter, with the first edition coming out on August 29th . 2. Dear Parents / Guardians, • I am happy to announce that OSB will participatein the • Regional Special Olympics Swim Meet onNovember 14th, 2013at the Muskogee Swim & Fitness Center. • A tentative dual meet is planned for Nov 6that the same location. • As with any competitive event, preparation will require consistent practice, stamina, and dedication from the participants. Swimming competitively requires that a person has the ability to swim efficiently and feel comfortable with their swim skills in both shallow and deep water. • Swim team members must be age 10 or older. • This is a unified event that allows non-special Olympic participants to compete along with area special Olympians. Therefore, any OSB student is welcome to tryout for the swim team. • We will have swim team tryouts on August 28(7:00 pm)during Recreation Swim night at the Muskogee Swim and Fitness Center. Students will be selected on the basis of below listed required skills. • All swimmers must perform the following: • Swim team members must be able to enter and exit the pool independently from both shallow and deep water. • Swim a minimum of 25 meters using front crawl and back stroke. Modifications to these strokes are allowed – such as using a flotation device or kickboard. • Stroke efficiency will also be evaluated. Improving stroke efficiency will be a major component of swim team practices. => Attendance is very important. <= • Please discuss with and encourage your student to try out for the swim team. • Each student must provide a swimsuit that fits well and allows appropriate coverage of body parts during active movement. Some eye conditions may require goggle usage; most swimmers prefer to use goggles at all times. A swim bag and flip flops are encouraged for keeping up with personal belongings and hygiene. Let us know if you require assistance with obtaining a swim suit, caps, goggles, etc. • October and November swim practice dates and times will be determined ASAP. • If you have questions, feel free to contact me at the school or by email: kallen@osb.k12.ok.us. • *** Day students must obtain prior permission from Mrs. Cragg to stay after school or in the dorms on swim practice nights.**** • Thank you, • Mrs. Allen and Mr. Culie Principal Gram – Page 2
