  2. RULE 8 The Start of Play

  3. The Start of Play • Each team in own half of field • Defenders at least 10 yards from ball • Ball stationary on center spot • Referee signals with whistle to kick-off • Ball is in play when it is kicked and moves forward Current Knowledge

  4. Kick-Offs When: • Start of game • After each goal • By team scored upon • Start of second half • By team that did not kick-off in first half • Teams switch ends Current Knowledge

  5. Additional Points Current Knowledge • Kicker may not “double touch” the ball • A goal may be scored directly from a kick-off • Referee must signal to the official timer when to start the clock

  6. RULE 9 Ball In and Out of Play

  7. Ball In and Out of Play Ball is out of play when: • It has wholly crossed the goal line or touch line …. On the ground or in the air • Play has been stopped by the referee Current Knowledge

  8. Ball In and Out of Play • Ball is in play at all other times including: • Rebound from goalpost, crossbar or corner flag post • Rebound off an official as long as the ball remains on the field of play Current Knowledge

  9. IFK Restart Current Knowledge Temporary Suspension of Play Due to: • Injury • Inadvertent Whistle • Ball becomes deflated • Interference by an outside agent Only when one team has “clear” possession of the ball. “Clear” Possession= No opponent is within playing distance of the ball

  10. Drop Ball Restart Current Knowledge Temporary Suspension of Play Due to: • Injury • Inadvertent Whistle • Ball becomes deflated • Interference by an outside agent Only when neither team has “clear” possession of the ball.

  11. Drop Ball Restart • When ball goes out-of-play due to a simultaneous touch by two opposing players • When simultaneous fouls of the same degree are committed

  12. Drop Ball Where ball was when play stopped …. AND …. 5 yards from the touch-line

  14. Drop Ball GOAL IS ALLOWED IF EITHER TEAM KICKS BALL DIRECTLY INTO GOAL ON FIRST TOUCH Against Self or Opponent

  20. RULE 15 The Throw-In

  21. The Throw-In When the wholeball has crossed the touch line Throw-in awarded to opponents of the player who last touched the ball Current Knowledge

  22. Placement Current Knowledge Awarded from the point where it crossed the touch line If not, it shall be considered to be improperly thrown

  25. Restart Current Knowledge Ball is in play when: • It has left the hands of the thrower • Any part of the ball breaks the plane of the touchline If ball does not enter field properly: A throw-in is awarded to the opponent

  26. Infraction By Opponent If an opponent unfairly distracts or moves to impede the thrower… Player is Cautionedfor “unsporting behavior” and shown the yellow card. Current Knowledge It is an infraction for a defender to stand closer than 2 yds. from point where throw-in is taken.

  28. RULE 16 The Goal Kick

  29. Goal Kick When the whole ball has: • Crossed the goal linein the air or on the ground • Was last touched by an attacker • A goal was not scored Current Knowledge

  30. WHERE Current Knowledge A goal kick may be taken from anywhere within the Goal Area.

  31. Restart Current Knowledge • Whole ball must leave the penalty area on first touch • If ball touched prior to leaving the penalty area by either team Retake goal kick Once the ball is placed, it cannot be moved to another part of the Goal Area.

  38. Corner Kicks - Potential Dangerous Situation Current Knowledge • Before ball is in play: • Pushing and jostling for position • Hold up kick and warn or Caution • After ball is in play: • All fouls per Law 12 • Penalize per Law 12
