MISSIONSTATEMENT The Garden City School District seeks to create an environment for learning which enables each student the opportunity to grow as an individual as well as a group member while striving to achieve the optimal level of academic, social and personal success. Students will thrive in a learning environment that is developmentally appropriate, individualized and challenging. Our goal and responsibility is to help each student develop an enthusiasm for learning, a respect for self and others, and the skills to become a creative independent thinker and problem solver.

TEACHING AND LEARNING • Implementation of Reading Project K-5 through Teachers College • Expansion of Fundations to grade 2 • Embed computational thinking concepts in K-5  • Implement Project Lead the Way course App Creator for 6th and 7th grades  • Continue to develop MakerSpace in the Middle School  • Implement high school electives in AP Computer Science Principles and Media Arts I

  5. TEACHING AND LEARNING • Update Gr 6-8 Math Textbooks.  • New World Language textbook series in Gr 7-10 • Wilson Training for special education teachers • Continue adoption of P-12 Science Learning Standards  • Explore and implement programs to meet mental health and social emotional needs

  6. TEACHING AND LEARNING • Special Education  • Develop a 3-year strategic plan. • Focused training for reading for all special education teachers K-5. • Increase parent engagement utilizing a revised communication plan.

TECHNOLOGY • Follow the five-year technology plan. • Expand using Student Learning Management System – Google Classroom. • Support Project Lead the Way Course in the middle school. • Comply with the new Education law 2-D Part 121 regarding data privacy and protection. • Implement measures for Cybersecurity.

  9. ATHLETICS • Rollout Family ID program. • Design and implement Student Recognition Program.  • Assess current participation on teams to develop a long-range plan.

Facilities Engage in a Facilities Study with a focus on: • Classroom space/Class size • Instructional structures that work best for students (science labs, global learning spaces) • State of the art library/makerspace • Use of space – efficient and financially responsible, but effective for student learning

  11. SAFETY AND SECURITY • Continue work on completing vestibules, visitor management, one button lock down, and camera software upgrade. • Begin the interior door lock project. • Expand camera coverage as needed in buildings. • Design the exterior lights at the bus garage. • Assess transportation for possible install of cameras at the bus garage. • Update safety brochure for district with consistent language and information. • Continue training of staff and students. 

  12. BOARD OF EDUCATION • Systematic review of BOE policies. • Engage in a Facilities Study for long-term capital planning. • Refocus the Legislative Affairs Committee on current topics impacting education.
