  1. Maryland Professional Volunteer Corps Introduction to the Online Training Jointly sponsored by : The Maryland Board of Physicians, Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, MedChi: The Maryland State Medical Society, MidAtlantic Public Health Training Center and the Johns Hopkins Center for Public Health Preparedness

  2. A brief word to course participants from the Chairman of the Maryland Board of Physicians on speaking to the public and the media in the event of an emergency situation: The purpose of the Board’s Emergency Preparedness Program is to provide the participants with very basic knowledge about what types of emergency situations we may face, how our licensed Maryland providers may help in times of need, and what our legal protections and responsibilities are. This training should not be construed to confer expert status on the participants. In the event of an emergency situation, the flow of accurate, measured, and consistent information to the public will be paramount in assuring an optimal outcome. Thus, all contact with media must be left to those specifically charged with that duty. It is our responsibility to have a coordinated public message, therefore, comments to the public, the press, reporters from the broadcast media, and any other media outlets should be coordinated through the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response. The Maryland Board of Physicians sincerely thanks you for your service and for your cooperation. Harry C. Knipp, M.D., FACR Former Chairman, Maryland Board of Physicians
