Code of Conduct • Respect yourself & others • Speak kindly & avoid physical violence • Respect personal & school property • Strive to understand & respect differences among each other • Conduct yourself in a safe & orderly manner • Comply with all school board policies, local, state & federal laws • Take responsibility for your education • Avoid disruptive dress and behavior • Be honest & kind in your actions and words

Real Life • The expectations for behavior as described in the code of conduct are probably similar to the expectations at home and essentially the same that you will have in life after high school • It is our job as an institution of education to prepare you all for that life after leaving Penncrest High School

  5. Discipline Policy Agreement • Student Discipline Code and a form were mailed home in late July • Forms are to be signed by parent/guardian and student and returned to homeroom teacher no later than Friday, September 7th. • Failure to meet the expectation will result in a disciplinary consequence • The following slides highlight the policies most often implemented.

  6. Medical/Emergency Cards • Information is critical to the proper medical treatment of students and for emergency contact information. • Distributed in homeroom. • Will need to be completed and returned to homeroom by Friday, September 7.

New this year…pay attention • Attendance Policy- Refer to website/handbook for full policy (As determined by the state of Pennsylvania, and administered by Penncrest High School) • Family Vacations • Request form must be submitted a minimum of 14 days in advance of trip • No more than 5 days per student will be approved for educational trips in any school year • Absences • Parents must call the appropriate grade level office the day of the absence

Attendance… • Absences • In addition, a student must submit a note upon return to school identifying the specific reason for the absence…”Illness” will no longer be accepted, need specificity • More than 3 consecutive days requires a note from a physician upon return. • Early Dismissals • A written request from a parent must be submitted in the morning to the appropriate grade level office. Note should contain parent cell phone number, reason and time for dismissal. • Documentation from office must be submitted upon return

  9. Personal Electronic Mobile Devices It is important to recognize the significance of personal electronic mobile devices in society, work, and school. Mobile devices have the potential to contribute to the educational experience, while, at the same time, their use poses a risk for personal distraction, class disruptions, and issues of academic integrity. The effective and appropriate student management of these devices is paramount not only to the smooth operation of the high school, but also to the successful transition to the world outside of high school. To that end, students should adhere to the following expectations for the use of personal electronic mobile devices at Penncrest High School.

  10. Personal Electronic Mobile Devices • All electronic devices should be set to the “silent” mode so that they do not distract from instruction and learning in the classroom and/or building. • Students shall be solely responsible for the safekeeping of any electronic device brought to school. Each student who brings an electronic device to school or to a school function or activity shall assume the risk of loss, theft, damage or other injury to the electronic device.

  11. Personal Electronic Mobile Devices • Students shall not use the audio recording function of any electronic device at school or at any school activity or function unless given express and specific permission by 1) a teacher or administrator and 2) the individuals whose voices are being recorded. • Students shall not use the camera or video recording function or any electronic device at school or at any school activity or function unless given express and specific permission in advance by 1) a teacher or administrator and 2) the individuals who are being recorded.

  12. Personal Electronic Mobile Device Use in the Building • Classroom • The use of personal electronic devices in the classroom is at the discretion of the classroom teacher. • The use of the devices in the classroom should be for academic purposes only. • Students who fail to follow teacher expectations risk confiscation of the device for the class period and/or a discipline referral. • Excessive violations may result in additional disciplinary action by the grade level administrator. • Hallway • Due to potential safety issues, the use of personal electronic devices in the hallways during class transitions is strictly prohibited. • Cafeteria • Students are permitted to use personal electronic devices in the cafeteria during their lunch periods.

  13. Personal Electronic Mobile Device Use in the Building • Locker Rooms • Due to the video/camera capabilities, the use of personal electronic devices is strictly prohibited in locker rooms. • Emergency Drills and/or True Emergencies • Students are not permitted to use personal electronic devices during these events.

  14. Lateness to School • Same expectation as you will or do have at a place of employment. Be on time! • Students must be in homeroom by 7:30. Students who need to report to another classroom can do so after 7:35. Students will not be permitted in the halls between 7:30-7:35. • Students arriving late are to report to the “Late Room”, lecture room at the back of the auditorium. • Failure to follow this protocol will result in a Saturday School assignment.

  15. Lateness to School • All students are given two unpenalized latenesses per marking period. • Excused Late • Arrival to homeroom after 7:30 with a note from a parent/guardian. • Counts as one of the unpenalized latenesses • Students will be permitted to make-up any academic work missed due to the lateness.

  16. Lateness to School • Noncumulative Late • Arrival to homeroom after 7:30 with a note from a physician, dentist, lawyer, etc. on official stationery. • WILL NOT count as one of the unpenalizedlatenesses • Students will be permitted to make-up any academic work missed due to the lateness.

  17. Lateness to School • Unexcused Late • Arrival to homeroom after 7:30 without a note. • Counts as one of the unpenalized latenesses • Students WILL NOT be permitted to make-up any academic work missed due to the lateness.

  18. Lateness to School • Consequences for Lateness per Marking Period • 3rd & 4th non-excluded lates • After-School detentions • 5th & 6th non-excluded lates • Saturday School Assignment • Suspension of Parking Permit if applicable • 7 or more non-excluded lates • Out of School Suspension • Parent/student conference

  19. Expectations for Proper Attire • There is a difference between what is deemed as appropriate attire in the school/workplace and outside of the school/workplace.

  20. Expectations for Proper Attire • Shirts/Tops that are inappropriate are: • Low-cut or revealing • Bare midriff or bare shoulder attire such as • Halter tops • Tops with spaghetti straps • Tank tops • Tube tops • Muscle shirts • Mesh and see-through tops • Sleepwear

  21. Expectations for Proper Attire • Pants, shorts, skorts and skirts that are inappropriate are: • Worn lower than the hip resulting in the exposure of undergarments or inappropriate exposure of the body and any sleepwear. • Excessively short. All shorts, skirts, skorts and slits in the skirts must extend at least to the fingertips when the arms are fully rested at the sides of the body • Refer to the Student Handbook for the full policy.

  22. Expectations for Proper Attire • Consequences for not meeting the expectations for proper attire • Students will be given a blue dress code violation card and sent to the appropriate grade-level office • 1st offense • Parent/guardian will be notified • Student will be asked to change into appropriate attire. If unable, parent/guardian will be requested to bring in the appropriate attire. • Student will not return to class until proper attire is worn. • Consequence: Warning

Expectations for Proper Attire • 2nd offense • All of the steps of the first offense. • Consequence: After-school detention • 3rd offense • All of the steps of the first offense • Consequence: Saturday School • 4th offense • All of the steps of the first offense • Consequence: Out of school suspension

Bullying/Cyberbullying • Treat people as you would like to be treated • It will not be tolerated • Police will be notified if any threats or harassing messages are presented to administration in the form of e-mail, posting or text message • If you have received a harassing message, save it! • Prevention is the goal..if you are having an issue with someone, let us help mediate the issues, like adults.

  25. Cafeteria Expectations • No throwing food or drink containers • No yelling or screaming • Be quiet and orderly while exiting the cafeteria and traveling to next class (Classes are in session) • In order to leave the cafeteria, students must present a pass to the staff member on duty. This includes going to the library. • Food is not to be removed from the cafeteria. Students are expected to enter the cafeteria only when they are assigned lunch. • Food may not be ordered and delivered to the building during the school day. Food delivered to the building will not be accepted.

  26. Obligations • Students who owe obligations (uniforms, money, equipment, books, library fines, etc.) will not be permitted to purchase tickets to class sponsored formal dances until the obligation is reconciled. • Reminders will be mailed home and distributed in homerooms.

  27. Dances • Guest Registration • A PHS student may only bring one guest. • If you are bringing a non-PHS student as a guest the “Guest Registration” form must be completed and submitted to the appropriate grade level office 2 days before the dance. • Guests will not be permitted to attend if the protocol is not followed. • Form is available on-line. The guest’s school administrator needs to sign off on the form. Plan ahead!

  28. Dance Contract • Will be reviewed in homeroom. • Must be signed in homeroom and returned. • Students who have not signed the form will not be permitted to attend dances or proms.

  29. Safety..We All Must Do Our Part! • Be aware of your environment • If you see an unfamiliar adult, report it to a teacher or administrator • If you observe concerning behaviors, report it to a teacher or administrator • Keep the building secure • If you see a propped door, close it • Never allow anyone in the building through a locked door. Visitors may only access the building through the band room entrance and main rotunda
