  2. Organ Donation Updates on statistics: • 117,000 candidates on waiting list • 18% on the list are in California • 82% are need of a kidney transplant • 2011: 8,100 deceased donors

  3. Organ Donation Differences from tissue/eye donation: • Patient must have cardiac circulation until time of procurement • Approach process occurs prior to cardiac death • Approach is non-scripted • Cases take approximately 12 to 48hrs

  4. Role of the Assistant Coordinator Role: • Developed 2011 • Per diem position • Round on patients Lifesharing is following • Respond to non-urgent referrals • Night-round on-sites

  5. Role of the Assistant Coordinator Purpose: • Increase Lifesharing’s presence • Aid in staffing challenges • Maintain high level of response to referrals • Maintain customer service

  6. Effects on Donation On-site referrals: • Goal: 2 hours from time of referral to on-site visit • National benchmark for on-sites is 75% • Lifesharing’s goal is 83% for on-sites

  7. Effects on Donation 2011 - Began Assistant Coordinator Program: • 1,535 referrals • Response rate 77-84% 2012 - Full year with Coordinators: • 1,663 (8.3% increase) • Response rate 86.7%

  8. Effects on Donation Increasing Lifesharing's presence • On-site for night shift • Increased face time in hospitals Utilizing resources • Staff retention • Expediting cases

  9. Role of the Assistant Coordinator Evolving role: • More active role assisting procurement coordinators on cases • Increasing responsibilities • Cross training into other departments of Lifesharing
