SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • Introduction • Every congregation should desire to be organized after the pattern found in the New Testament • With this lesson we continue to learn of the important and necessary work of an evangelist. • The word must be preached to be heard and understood.

  3. SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • Introduction • With this lesson our intention is to look at the following: -Responsibilities of an evangelist -Should we have a located minister? -The support of a gospel preacher

  4. SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN EVANGELIST • Responsibility To Self -Must be given to godliness and purity, keeping the truth (I Tim 4:7,16; 5:22; II Tim 2:22) -Must be strong and bold in the truth of Jesus Christ (II Tim. 2:1; Tit. 2:15)

SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN EVANGELIST • Responsibility To The Brethren -Must help them remember God’s word, and commit to faithful men the teaching of it (I Tim. 4:6; II Tim. 2:2) -Must help the erring back to truth (I Tim. 6:17; II Tim. 2:25)

  6. SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN EVANGELIST • Responsibility To The Brethren -Must be an example to the brethren (I Tim. 4:12) -Must treat the brethren as his spiritual family (I Tim. 5:1-2)

  7. SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN EVANGELIST • Responsibility To The Elders -Honor their labor with the rest of the brethren (I Tim. 5:17) -Do not receive an accusation against an elder without witnesses (I Tim. 5:19)

  8. SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN EVANGELIST • Responsibility To The Elders -If an elder sins they must be rebuked before the others (I Tim. 5:20) -A minister must not show partiality nor is he hasty to any (I Tim. 5:21, 22)

  9. SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN EVANGELIST • Responsibility To The Gospel -Must command and teach its message (I Tim. 4:11) -Must spend time meditating on its message as well (I Tim. 4:15)

SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN EVANGELIST • Responsibility To False Teachers -Withdraw from them (I Tim. 6:3-5) -Must turn away from and reject them (II Tim. 3:1-5; Titus 3:10) -Must stop their mouths (Titus 1:11) -Rebuke them sharply (Titus 1:13)

  13. SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • “LOCATED” EVANGELISTS? • Some are uninformed about these texts -Barnabas and Paul in Antioch for 1 year (Acts 11:26) -Paul in Corinth for 1 ½ years (Acts 18:11) -Paul in Ephesus for 3 years (Acts 20:31)

  14. SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • “LOCATED” EVANGELISTS? • Some are uninformed about these texts -Luke was said to be located at Philippi for 7-8 years -History suggests that Philip was at Caesarea for 20 years

SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • THE SUPPORT OF AN EVANGELIST • The Bible supports support for preacher’s -An evangelist has the right to work to support himself (Acts 18:1-3) -An evangelist has the right to be supported from the church (I Cor. 9:4-14; II Cor. 11:8)

SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • THE SUPPORT OF AN EVANGELIST • The Bible supports support for preacher’s -Paul thanked Philippi for there support in the gospel (Phil. 1:3-5; 4:10-16) -Even individual Christian can help support a preacher (Gal. 6:6-10; I Cor. 16:17-18)

  17. SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • APPLICATION • We need to encourage men to be good faithful evangelists today • We need men who will stand for truth and be active in sharing the will of God • We need men who will rebuke error and help false teachers back to truth.

  18. SCRIPTURAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION Evangelists: Gospel Preacher’s • HEED THE WORD THAT JESUS SPOKE • Hear John 12:48 • Believe John 8:24 • Repent Luke 13:3, 5 • Confess Matt. 10:32-33 • Baptized Mark 16:16 • Faithful Matt. 24:13
