  1. February 7, 2012 Tuesday • EQ: How do I determine proper verb usage? • EQ: How are sentences structured and punctuated according to those structures? • EQ: How do writers narrow their topics? You need: paper (number 1-27), writing utensil, writer’s notebooks Today you will show mastery of standards, write, learn new vocabulary and work with it, and check progress on your research.

  2. Valentine traditions go back a long way in history. In the middle ages, young people drew names out of a bowl to see who their Valentine would be. They’d wear the name pinned to their shirt for all to see. Then in 1537, King Henry VII officially declared February 14 as Valentine’s Day. Answer in your writers’ notebook: Do you do anything special to celebrate Valentine’s Day? Describe how you celebrate the holiday. Word of the Day celestial (suh-less-chuhl) To do with the sky or the heavens Synonyms: heavenly, astronomical, extraterrestrial, otherworldly, immortal, angelic The Chinese Lantern Festival celebrates a celestial event – the first full moon of the New Year. Use the word celestial or one of its synonyms in a sentence.

Includes researched information in different types of products (e.g., compositions, multimedia presentations, graphic organizers, projects, etc.). • d. Documents sources. • e. Uses electronic media to locate relevant information.

  6. ELA7W4 The student consistently uses the writing process to develop, revise, and evaluate writing. The student • a. Plans and drafts independently and resourcefully. • b. Uses strategies of note taking, outlining, and summarizing to impose structure on composition drafts. • c. Revises manuscripts to improve the organization and consistency of ideas within and between paragraphs. • d. Edits writing to improve word choice after checking the precision of the vocabulary.
