  3. #10 – John Tyler • He was the son of the Governor of Virginia. • 1807: Graduated from the College of William and Mary. • Began to study law (Lawyer)

  4. #10 – John Tyler • 1811-16: elected to the Virginia Legislature. • 1813: married Letitia Christian (seven children) • 1817-21: elected a U.S. representative from Virginia. • 1823-25: Elected to the Virginia Legislature again.

  5. #10 – John Tyler • 1825-27: Elected Governor of Virginia. • 1827-36: Elected U.S Senator from Virginia • He was a Democrat – upset at Jackson, resigned as Senator and moved over to the Whig Party.

  6. #10 – John Tyler • 1841 - 45: Took over thePresidency when William Henry Harrison died. Becomes the tenth President of the U.S. • 1842: first wife dies; Letitia Christian • 1844: remarries – to Julia Gardner. (seven children)
