  2. Strategic Goal 6:International Reach & Influence • To extend and strengthen our achieve-ments and esteem around the globe, in the interests of our members and the profession.

  3. Overseas Chapters and Members • Total 5000 overseas members • 4 Overseas Chapters and 1 Interest Group • Hong Kong Chapter – 1539 members • Malaysia Chapter – 420 members • Singapore Chapter – 408 members • UK Chapter – 458 members • USA Interest Group – 350 members

  4. International Agreements Three basic types: • Mutual Recognition Agreement • Co-operation Agreement • APEC Engineer based Agreement

The International Committee Chaired by NDP Oversees and coordinates EA’s efforts to achieve Objective 6 of Strategic Plan Terms of Reference to be agreed by Council in February, but broadly Administers overseas chapters Oversees and approves international agreements (IAS) Recommends appointments to international bodies Communicates our overseas activities

  6. The International Agreement Secretariat (IAS) A subcommittee of the International Committee Responsibilities: Ensure negotiations follow due process Manage and administer all international agreements

  7. What Do We do on the world scene? • WFEO • WA/SA/EMF/ETMF • APEC Engineer Register • Trade/FTAs

  8. Involvement in Engineers Australia international Activities • Need for succession planning • Pre-requisites of an ‘international representative’ (Barry Grear will elaborate)
