  4. Why did Germany Quit? • Kaiser William II is forced to abdicate • Abdicate: to renounce or relinquish a throne, especially in a formal manner:

  5. Germany was seeking an armistice and calls for a revolution • Large number of Germans, including the military wanted the Kaiser Wilhelm II to abdicate

  6. After the war President Wilson had a plan for peace called The Fourteen Points

  7. 1. No more secret treaties. 2. Maintain freedom of the seas. 3. Lower tariffs to foster free trade. 4. Reduce arms to a level consistent with domestic safety 5. What did the Treaty of Versailles call for? • Created 9 new countries from land that once belonged to Germany, Austria-Hungary and Russia. • Gave the Ottoman Empire to France and England. • Demilitarized Germany • No air force • Small Army- 100,000 • Tiny Navy • Reparations- Germany had to pay $33 Billion
