  1. AJCU-East Asia OceaniaDIALOG LEARNING PROGRAM “Education for Constructive Dialog” July, 2009 Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Introduction Being located in the largest Moslem country in the world, Sanata Dharma University (SDU) as an AJCU-EAO member has a special context where Jesuit mandate in the field of interreligious dialog can be pursued by the AJCU-EAO members. Inter-religious and cross-cultural dialog in the perspective of Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm, should be understood as providing Context, Experience, Reflection, Action, and Evaluation to the AJCU-EAO students through which they can be formed toward future leaders with Ignatian characters.

  3. …. Introduction “Education for Constructive Dialog” can be chosen as a program that fits properly the main orientation of constructive learning models under the inspiration of Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm.

  4. GOALS: • Immersion and social involvement with people of other religions and cultures enhances sincere understanding and develops the students’ character building • Working together with people of other religions and cultures to produce a piece of art works or educational works enriches life experiences within the context of Ignatian Spirit. • The promotion of international brotherhood and solidarity based on mutual respect increases among different nations and religious beliefs.

  5. Benefits • Helping Jesuits Universities and Colleges be involved in global Jesuit networkings for humanistic developments in East Asia as well as in the world. • Strengthening international experiences and networking for all students.

  6. Program Development: Alternatives of Program Coverage Participants may experience concentration of program contents as follows: • Package A (Religions), • Package B (environment), • Package C (Culture). (e.g. 40%, 30%, 30% respectively, dependent on the focus takes).

  7. Program Development General Orientation Context Social Context of Indonesia and Yogyakarta Lectures on Education for Constructive Dialog in the perspective of Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm

Program Development Teaching English/ Mathematics for rural children Alternatives of getting Experiences Accompanying SDU Students during the learning process in field study Kognitive, motoric, and afective aspects Drama, gamelan, teaching aids production, other creative works Producing art performances or educational pieces of work with local people (rural)

  9. Program Development Facilitated by peer group to draw meanings Reflection Formulate constructive dialogue Action Evaluation Peer Group

  10. Program Development Excursion: • Borobudur Temple, • Prambanan Temple, • Sultan palace, • House of culture: Rumah Tembi, Bantul, • Parang Tritis Beach

  11. Challenges: • The members may come ony for the rich institutions or families, thus reducing the participating members. • Program for Inter-religious dialogues may be less interesting than that of cross-cultural or environment program for students • AJCU Joint funds can be generated to cover the expenditures
