Numeracy • Explore size, position, colour and shape of bugs. • Sort bug, seeds, plants into different groups and look at contrasting qualities. • Bug patterns with beads. • Buying and selling in the garden centre. • Ordering bugs using big, biggest, small, smallest. • Adding bugs. • Ordering bug numbers 0-20. • Investigating capacity and volume, how many small/big things can you fit in a container? • Stacking and packing boxes and pots in garden centre. • Measuring lengths and heights, using rulers and non standard measure. • Representing data in charts and tables. Other Activities Ugly Bug Ball Visit from the bug man Hatching eggs Bug hunts Gardening and growing things • During the project pupils will learn about: • How to look for tiny details with care and concentration • Equipment such as hand lenses, visualizers, pooters and microscopes to observe things closely • Small wonders of the natural world • How to use a digital camera to take photographs of details • Intricate patterns seen on both natural and man-made objects • Living things that are tiny • Representing ideas, observations and creativity, using drawing, mark-making, technology and words • Using creative skills to design, make and talk about a range of objects and artefacts linked to the theme • The Welsh language using words and phrases across a range of experiences both in the indoors and outdoors Nursery Teeny Tiny Things Summer Term 2014 Miss Copp • PSE • Caring for the natural world. • How litter and pollution affect the environment. • Caring for small things, such as babies, small animalsor insects. • Retell their experiences of caring for things. • Use mark making to respond to discussions. • Dangers and staying safe outdoors. • Life cycle of the frog and butterfly. Language, Literacy and Communication. Oracy – Listen to a variety of bug related stories, songs, rhymes and poems. Retell stories and poems and memorise songs and rhymes. Describing leaves, pebbles, feathers, shells, bugs in detail, using powerful and interesting words. Looking at things from different, perspectives, describing what they can see. Small and giant world imaginative role play. Science laboratory developing and using scientific vocabulary, asking questions. Reading - Read a variety of fiction and on fiction books about minibeasts. Listen to a variety of mythical and magical stories. Making labels and signs for the new areas. A variety of Welsh stories and rhymes. Writing – Write and draw letter on different scales, with different size pens, pencils etc… Make teeny, tiny books. Write stories about being tiny/make marks and patterns on different materials. Make labels. We were wondering….
