INTERESTING FACTS We are going to introduce some interesting facts about Scotland (inhabitants,languages,population origins)-5, 078 ,400 inhabitants live in Scotland.-People in Scotland speak English and Scottish Gaelic( a Celtic language), but most of them speak English. About 60, 000 persons can understand and write Scottish Gaelic.-Many ethnic groups live in Scotland :Polish Scottish , Pakistani Scottish and others as well .

  3. Scotland is located in the United Kingdom in Western Europe surrounded by a lot of isles. ( 790 islands:Shetlands , Orkneys , Hebrides ) • The Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea border it . • The climate is a temperate area but very changeable with some rain , wind and sunny spells . • Ben Nevis is the highest peak in Scotland which is quite a mountainous country .(1,344 m high) • Edimburgh which is the capital of Scotland is located on the Eastern coast of this country.   4. LANDSCAPES This lake is located in the Highlands and called Loch Ness. It is said thet this loch hides a mysterious monster . These cliffs are called Duncansby head , in the North East of Scotland .They are more than 210 ft (60m).

  5. These cows are called the Highland cause because we can meet a lot of them in the north of Scotland. (Highlands). Edinburgh castle is located on the volcanic rock and overlooks Edinburgh.   6. Legends of Scotland(Scottish Myths and Legends) In Scotland, we can find a lot of legends especially on water lochs: the best-known legend is the monster of Loch Ness. A lot of legends were transmitted orally that is, by word of mouth. Here are a few legends from Scotland :Black Donald, Boobrie,Brownie, Clootie, Fachan, Fionn, Ghillie Dhu, Kelpie, Lothian, Monster of Loch Ness ,Red Cap, Scotia ,Selkie, Shellycoat, Sidhe.   7. The monster of Loch Ness A legendary animal lives in the Loch Ness which is a lake in the moutains in the North of Scotland. This monster who is called Nessie looks very tall: 12 meters high. People believe it is a female. First ,about 565 after J-C , an Irish said he saw Nessie. Alround the 19th century, a lot of people said they saw it : the best-known testimony is in summer in 1933 . Mr and Mrs Spicer went back to London and they told they saw Nessie on the road. Since tnen , the world media has been interested in Nessie who has become very famous. They were many expeditions but nothing could prove Nessie existed. Some scenario writers used this legend to shoot films. Monster of Loch Ness

  8. Famous People Famous Scots Include: Walter Scott was born in 1771 in Edinburgh and died in 1832 in Abbotsford. He worked as a a poet and a Scottish writer, he wrote a famous book called "Ivanhoe“. → Robert Louis Stevenson was born in 1850 in Edinburgh and died in 1894 in Samoa , Polynesia . He travelled a lot and wrote about his experiences in his books : “The Island in Treasures”. Arthur Conan Doyle was born in 1859 and died in 1930. He became very famous because he invented the detective Sherlock Holmes and his friend Dr Watson . ← → Sean Connery was born in 1930 in Edinburgh. Famous musicians include ← Annie Lennox is a rock singer and part of the group Eurhythmics.They ve been popular since 1980. → Wet Wet Wet is a Scottish pop group which is composed of 4 boys .They scored a number of hits in the eighties . ← Simple Minds is a Scottish new wave and rock band , founded by Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill in 1975.The became popular in the mid-eighties with that single=“Don’t you forget about me. more information about the group By Alice and Manon

  10. Inventors and their inventions We are going to introduce Scottish inventors and their inventions. By Rémi and Valentin

  11. James Watt created the first steam engine. This machine changed our world from an agricultural society to an industrial one. • John Logie Baird invented the first televised pictures in 1925. He was born next to Glasgow in Helensburgh. • Sir Alexander Fleming was born in Ayrshire. He studied medicine and discovered penicillin in 1928. He won the Nobel Prize in 1945.

  12. Scottish food Tablet Tablet is an original Scottish confectionery.We think it is very delicious because it is very sweet . But it can cause damage to your teeth. It is a typical dish in Scotland. In our opinion, we wouldn’t like eating it because it made with oat meal and sheep’s insides. Haggis

  13. They are made with flour, eggs, sugar and milk. They are different from French pancakes – they are thicker you can eat them with butter or jam. Pancakes Fudge This is some Scottish fudge . Adults eat fudge after a meal, along with coffee.

  14. Food That Is Popular In Scotland, people like eating pizzas so we can find differents types of them. At lunch time, the Scottish really love getting chips and cheese. You can taste many sorts of sandwiches with a lot of flavours.

  16. Scottish Singers Primal Scream is a Scottish Rock Group (1982). Their first album came out in 1987 (” Sonic Flower Groove ”) The Singer is called Robert Gillespie and his musician : Andrew Innes (guitar), Gary “Mani” Mounfield (bass), Kevin Shields (guitar), Martin Duffy (keyboard), Darri Mooney (drums) We don' t know this singer.

  17. Paolo Nutini Paolo Nutini was born on 9th January 1987, Today, he is 21 years old. His first album : “There Street” came out in France in 2006 . He has been very popular in the Uk and abroad since then . We don’t know this singer either. http://www.paolonutini.com

  18. Atif Aslam Atif Aslam is a famous Pakistani musician and singer who has already sang a lot of songs. He was born in Wazirabad ,Pakistan and today he is twenty-fiveyears old.

  19. DESCRIPTION He formed a band and named it Jal and became popular .In December 2006, his album was released: it’s called « Dorry ». He likes listening to all sorts of music. He has already sung in a Bollywood film. Atif Aslam by Ameline and Chloe.

  20. SHOPS In Scotland, there are a lot of shops. So are there in France…

  21. New look is a fashion shop. There are three parts: women, men, teens and kids. A lot of teenagers go to because there to buy their clothes. Shops • In B&Q, there are bathrooms and plumbing, kitchens, items for leisure and gardening, decorating and lighting, heating, ,flooring, tools,… Laurine, Manon, Charlotte • Harveys is a furniture shop: they sell sofas, chairs, dining, lounge, furnishing bedroom… In Morrissons supermarkets, we can find food, drink, family life items, fresh food and other items

  22. Poland In Poland, there are about 300 soups. This figure may seem a bit exaggerated, but soup is a tradition in Polish cooking.Borsch or beetsoup are considered as the most famous ones .

The Polish money is the zloty literally meaning "golden” 1 zloty=0.3 € The coins are called grosze. • Poland is famous for: • Karol Józef Wojtyła who became Pope Jean-Paul II in 1978 until his death in 2005. • Polish dance and folkore such as the krakowiak, the oberek and the mazur have been popular .
