Personal Profile Personal Profile Sarah Altwicker • Degree in Southeast-Asian- Studies • atthe University of Bonn • studying Environment & Education • at the University Rostock • since2002 engaged in Coral Reef Education Programs • Voluntaryworkfor the Marine National Park Bunaken • Initiator and manager of the 2005/2006 Coral Reef Education Program, and awareness-trainingforschoolchildren in the Marine National Park Bunaken

  3. Marine National Park Bunaken Marine National Park Bunaken/ Indonesia • encompasses 89.065 ha and consists of two separate parts: • Northern section • Southern mainland section

  4. Marine National Park Bunaken • over 30.000 people live in 22 villages • farmers and blue water fishermen • a lot of the people do depend upon the reefs for survival

  7. Coral Reef Education Program Target groups: • Schoolchildren (aged 10 to 15 years) from 35 elementary schools within the Marine National Park Bunaken • Teachers • Students from the University of Manado

  8. Coral Reef Education Program • Aims of the Program • Create awareness in young people for their marine • environment and their dependance on it • Building a bridge between different cultures • Developing new ideas for protecting our natural environment
