  1. APM Customer Support Technical Training Part 3 Communication APM Annual International Partners Conference

  2. Agenda • 4-20mA / HART • RS485 / Modbus • GPRS / GSM / Smart GPRS • 3DLinkPro / Modem Wizard • TCP/IP • Barriers / Isolators for Explosive environment • Understanding Computers and Networking • MAC address, IP, TCP, Ports, Routers, etc. APM Annual International Partners Conference

  3. Connection Methods The 3DLevelScanner can be connected to different systems for different purposes • 4-20mA • A method of level/volume indication to a PLC or DCS system • HART • Using existing 4-20mA connection to transfer more data and allow a PC software to connect to a remote device • RS485 • A serial, 2-wire, multidrop (“Daisy Chain”) communication protocol, works in a mode of one master-many slaves, with APM it is limited up to 64 scanners • Modbus • Type of communication that utilizes the RS485 physical infrastructure APM Annual International Partners Conference

  4. Connection Methods (2) • GSM (CSD) • Using a RS485 GSM modem to connect and communicate with another GSM modem in a different location • GSM (GPRS) • Using a RS485 GPRS compatible modem to convert the serial data from the RS485 bus to an IP packet and transfer it over the global Internet network • The other party should also be connected to the Internet • 3DLinkPro • APM approved modem for both GSM and GPRS • Modem Wizard • Configuration application for the 3DLinkPro, used to test and confirm the functionality of the modem and SIM card APM Annual International Partners Conference

  5. Connection Methods (3) • TCP/IP • Using a compatible RS485 to TCP/IP convertor, the 3DLevelScanners can be connected to a local area network and be monitored by any computer connected to that network • APM recommends the use of BF-430 manufactured by CHIYU • Connecting the 3DLevelScanner requires know-how and understanding of many terms and how they integrate together • Let’s Start… APM Annual International Partners Conference

  6. 4-20mA APM Annual International Partners Conference • The 3DLevelScanner output on an active 4-20mA • The Volume in percentage as defined by the full and empty calibration levels • The 4-20mA requires connection of a passive device on the other side for proper performance • The 3DLevelScanner can be configured to output 4-20mA  0%-100% or 20-4mA  0%-100% • For testing purposes, the 3DLevelScanner can simulate any current level between 4mA to 20mA in resolution of 0.01mA

  7. 4-20mA+HART • The 3DLevelScanner can be controlled via the 3DLevel Manager using the 4-20mA output • A MicroLink HART modem is recommended for use with the 3DLevelScanner • HART Baud rate is 1.2kbps • Max cable distance: 3km (2miles) • Connection example of 4-20mA + HART APM Annual International Partners Conference

  8. Multiple Scanners Using 4-20ma Output Only APM Annual International Partners Conference

  9. RS485 • Serial communication method • One device is a master, in this case the 3DLevelManager (or 3DVision) • All other devices are listening and replying on demand • Each node on the bus has a unique address (polling address) between 00 to 63 • Masters can be connected on the RS485 bus using a communication converter, such as GSM modem, TCP/IP converter, USB, RS-232, etc. • Cable requirements: • Shielded, Twisted-pair, 120 Ohm impedance • Important: Daisy-Chain connection, 120 Ohm resistor and shield grounded at one end of the bus/line/cable APM Annual International Partners Conference

  10. RS485 • Resistors must be at the far ends of the RS485 bus • When two or more power supplies are in use, it is recommended to use mutual ground • Cable grounding shield must be connected to the ground on one end of the cable • Max Cable distance: <1000m APM Annual International Partners Conference

  11. Daisy Chain connection up to 64 scanners APM Annual International Partners Conference

  12. GSM using 3DLinkPro • Using two GSM modems to send and receive data • On the scanner side the modem must be connected to the RS485 bus • On the computer side, the modem communication port must be connected to the computer using compatible converter • The SIM cards on both GSM modems must be enabled with data transfer capability from the cellular provider, also referred to as CSD APM Annual International Partners Conference

  13. GSM Connection APM Annual International Partners Conference

  14. GPRS using 3DLinkPro • Using 3DLinkPro to convert the RS485 data into TCP/IP packet and transfer it over GSM network • SIM card must be activated and compatible with GPRS, and allow sending and receiving of SMS messages • Recommended data quota/plan is at least 150MB/month in constant connection • Before using the 3DLinkPro it is advised to test the SIM card with the 3DLinkPro in-house before shipping (using the APM Modem Wizard) • SIM #, APN name must be obtained • Disable any PIN code / Username and Password • Preferable to have a fixed IP for the SIM card • Note: one of the scanners must have polling address 00 APM Annual International Partners Conference

  15. GPRS Connection APM Annual International Partners Conference

  16. GSM/GPRS using 3DLinkPro Steps for connecting the 3DLevelScanner to the 3DLevelManager: • Open the manager and start a communication to the specified phone number using GPRS option • Send SMS to the 3DLinkPro: e.g.: CALLAPM,212.235.27.113,7040,internet, • Wait for connection • Note: In order to make the connection, in the local network, a port forwarding option must be activated to the computer’s local IP Address • SMS to reset the 3DLinkPro: HW MODEM RESET APM Annual International Partners Conference

  17. Smart GPRS Enables sending text messages (SMS) for GPRS connection via the SMS Server SMS Server = GSM Modem connected to a computer + APM’s application running Connection via the 3DLevel Manager software tool APM Annual International Partners Conference

  18. 3DLinkPro – Computer Connection APM Annual International Partners Conference

  19. Modem Wizard • Fill required fields under “Modem Details” • Press “Analyze!” • Results appear in “Analyzed Info” • If all fields are filled, communication is ok and ready for connection APM Annual International Partners Conference

  20. 3DLinkPro Configuration via Modem Wizard • Modem Wizard is not recommended for use as all 3DLinkPros are configured prior to shipping • Enables configuration of Username/Password (if any) • Enables configuration of 4 different operation modes, depending on the country and the cellular provider: APM Annual International Partners Conference

  21. TCP/IP Connection • It is possible to convert the RS485 serial bus to a TCP packet and transfer it over Local Area Network (LAN) using a compatible device • APM recommends to use model BF-430 manufactured by CHIYU APM Annual International Partners Conference

  22. TCP/IP • Setup example APM Annual International Partners Conference

  23. Modbus (RTU) • RS485 Serial communication method designed for industrial devices for controlling and monitoring • Using standard Modbus commands the measure data can be received by the connected controller • Note: When using Modbus (via the RS485), do not use the 3DLevelManager in parallel APM Annual International Partners Conference

  24. Explosive Installations • ATEX II 1/2D, 2G (Head-zone 21, Antenna-zone 20) • FM CL I,II Div I GP CDEFG • For explosive areas, the customer is responsible to install the scanner according to the local guidelines For the Control Drawing exit presentation and open this: APM Annual International Partners Conference
