What Benefits do I Receive as a PENC Member? $3 Million Liability Insurance – if you are named in a lawsuit as a result of your employment as an educator Attorney Consultations – if you need the advice of an attorney PENC provides up to $10,00 for consultation Member Representation – if you are asked to attend a meeting where your rights may be jeopardized Employment Support – if you have any questions about your rights and responsibilities as a NC educator Identity Theft Insurance – if you are a victim of identity theft, you receive $1,000 for reimbursement of attorneys’ fees You pay NOTHING out of pocket for these services!

Voice in Policymaking… PENC is well represented at: • The General Assembly • The State Board of Education • The State Health Plan • The Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System PENC understands how public education policy is formed… PENC attends these meetings to monitor what policies are being discussed and implemented, and we voice thoughts, concerns and suggestions to policymakers and lawmakers.

PENC Workshops National Board Preparation • Learn valuable organization techniques • How to integrate portfolio instructions with sorting criteria • How to present an effective video lesson • Gain valuable tips for successful writing/test taking • Gain insight into other essential areas HELPS Literacy Workshops • The Helping Early Literacy with Practice Strategies (HELPS) Programs integrate easy-to-use instructional strategies that are specifically designed to improve students’ reading fluency. • Learn how to use the One-on-one program as well as the small-group version of HELPS YOU WILL RECEIVE TOP-NOTCH INSTRUCTION FROM THE BEST! National Board Workshops are FREE for ALL NC educators!HELPS Literacy Workshops are $15 for PENC Members, $25 for Non-Members. You do not have to be a PENC member to attend. PENC Scholarships & Grants New Teacher Grants • For members in their first 3 years of teaching practice who demonstrate a need for instructional supplies • 16 grant winners statewide will receive $250. NCCAT Subs on Us Grant • Covers the cost of a substitute for up to a week so that members can attend a program at NCCAT Professional Development Scholarship • For members who pursue PD opportunities • 4 scholarships given in the amount of $250

Join an Association Would you wait until you get into a car accident to get your car insurance? • You will be unable to receive assistance from PENC if an issue arises before you become a member. • To receive legal assistance, you MUST join PENC prior to any incidents giving rise to your need for advice.
