  1. Welcome! Please silence your cell phones Sunday Bible Classes 9:30 AM Worship 10:30 AM 5:30 PM Wednesday Bible Classes 7:00 PM www.SunsetchurchofChrist.net

  2. "But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.“ Matthew 22:31-32

  3. Eternal Judgment

  4. Fundamental Principles of Christianity Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. Hebrews 6:1-2

  5. Judgment We have seen previously judgment comes at the end of time Significiance: Bad things are NOT judgment Bad things are NOT punishment

  6. The Day of Judgment I Thessalonians 4 Matthew 25

  7. What Does NOT Happen at Death We do not go to heaven or hell The dead cannot speak to us We cannot know the fate of others

  8. Eternal Destiny Heaven and Hell are places reserved to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 1 Peter 1:4

  9. Eternal Destiny Heaven and Hell are places reserved raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever. Jude 1:13

  10. Eternal Destiny Heaven and Hell are places prepared In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:2-3

  11. Eternal Destiny No one is in heaven yet No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. 1 John 4:12 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. John 1:18a

  12. Eternal Destiny Heaven and Hell are for judgment And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Revelation 20:12b-13

  13. Separated from Us Luke 16:19-31 A real place Luke 23:43 Acts 2:31

  14. Separated from Us No one can pass between….. But Christ!

  15. Something Changed Therefore He says: "When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.” (Now this, "He ascended" --what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.) Ephesians 4:8-10

  16. Something Changed For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 1 Peter 3:18-19

  17. Something Changed They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. 1 Peter 4:5-6

  18. Something Changed Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, "Write: 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.'" "Yes," says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.“ Revelation 14:13

  19. We Cannot Know There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another? James 4:12 For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. And again, "The LORD will judge His people.“ Hebrews 10:30

  20. We Cannot Know For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife? 1 Corinthians 7:16

  21. The Need of Faith Why didn’t 1st century Christians worry? They understood NOT to worry about things they could not control They understood that trusting God was the only way for peace

  22. If The Dead Could Speak It wouldn’t be about money It wouldn’t be about joy in life They wouldn’t be “spirit guides” It would be ONLY ONE MESSAGE:

  23. If the Dead Could Speak "Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house, 'for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.‘” Luke 16:27-28

  24. If the Dead Could Speak The righteous dead desire our presence The unrighteous dead resist our company They all say the same thing!

  25. The Message of the Dead to YOU "Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.' Luke 16:29 "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.” John 5:39-40
