  2. “Brain-Controlled PuzzleboxOrbitHelicopter Makes Waves at CES” • Developed by Puzzlebox and NeuroSky • Three components: Orbit, Puzzlebox Pyramid, and the Mindwave Mobile EEG headset • Orbit operates directly through different levels of concentration and relaxation • Flight commands are transmitted from the electrical activity sensory headset to a remote control device that signals commands to Orbit • Software download on smart phones can substitute the Puzzlebox Pyramid

  3. Impacts of Orbit • Brain-computer Interface (BCI) technology is often directed at assisting and repairing human cognitive or sensory-motor functions • Puzzleboxfreely published all source code, step-by-step guides, and 3-D models to take apart Orbit to encourage improvements and innovative application of BCI technology

  7. Issues surrounding encryption • Wi-Fi • Secure if sending data inside network • Outside transfer requires additional security, can slow devices • VPN • Many EHR programs require remote logon access • Secure but performance is limited • Removable Media • Easy way to physically secure data • iPad doesn’t support • Long Term Solutions: • Quicker devices, better mobile encryption • Secure, dedicated apps

  8. Facebook Storage • 220B photos • 300M per day • 8% viewed • Tiered storage – hot, warm, cold • Developed software to evaluate and move photos to different tiers Photo: Rich Miller

  9. Facebook Impacts • SMR: shingled magnetic recording • 68-72 degrees • 80-85 in “cold” isle and up to 120 in the “hot” isle
