  2. What makes a man/woman step out of the mainstream of mediocrity in order to take action? • What motivates a person to take up in the face of opportunity or in the presence of trouble?

  3. 1 Chronicles 15:25 25 So David and the elders of Israel and the commanders of units of a thousand went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the house of Obed-Edom, with rejoicing. 

  4. 1 Samuel 7:2 2 The ark remained at KiriathJearim a long time—twenty years in all.

  5. 2 Samuel 6:9-12 9 David was afraid of the LORD that day and said, “How can the ark of the LORD ever come to me?”10 He was not willing to take the ark of the LORD to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.11 The ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the LORD blessed him and his entire household.

  6. 2 Samuel 6:9-12 12 Now King David was told, “The LORD has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God.” So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing.

  7. Who was Obed-Edom? Means servant of EDOM. He was a Gittite which means an inhabitant of Gath. Gath – City where Goliath came from. He was a descendant of ESAU.

  8. All that is really know about OBED-EDOM is that, for 3 months the ark of God was in his house.

  9. THEY NEEDED SINGERS

  10. 1 Chronicles 15:16-18 16 David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their fellow Levites as musicians to make a joyful sound with musical instruments: lyres, harps and cymbals. 17 So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel; from his relatives, Asaph son of Berekiah; and from their relatives the Merarites, Ethan son of Kushaiah; 18 and with them their relatives next in rank: Zechariah,[a]Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel,[b] the gatekeepers.

  12. 1 chronicles 16:4-5 4 He appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, to extol,[a] thank, and praise the LORD, the God of Israel: 5Asaph was the chief, and next to him in rank were Zechariah, then Jaaziel,[b]Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel. They were to play the lyres and harps, Asaph was to sound the cymbals,

  13. OBED-EDOM Household was tremendously blessed

  14. 1 chronicles 13:14 14 The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the LORD blessed his household and everything he had.

  15. THEY NEED GATEKEEPERS

  16. 1 chronicles 15:24 24Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah and Eliezer the priests were to blow trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-Edom and Jehiah were also to be doorkeepers for the ark.
