Introduction and context • Enormous financial challenge • increased focus on non pay spend • ensuring value for money • protect front line services • “Better procurement, Better Value, Better Care” savings of £2bn • Overcomplicated procurement landscape not fit for purpose • Do we have the expertise?

What we need to overcome barriers: • Clinical leadership: • rationalise products & suppliers • accept evidence from other trusts • partner with procurement • A delivery model and compliance framework - remove duplication, create more effective structure • Commitment from market; service provider mandate • Behavioural change - align relevant resources with a common purpose to facilitate savings

  4. Delivering better value for money • Strengthen board and clinical leadership • Give priority to collective benefits not silos • Work with LPP and the NHS system to define an appropriate delivery model for the future • Drive adoption of endorsed savings opportunities • Support the concept of demand aggregation and make commitment a realisable goal for the NHS • Only by being an active participant can you influence the future
