Internet of Everything • The term Internet of Things was first used by “Kevin Ashton” in 1999 • Internet is now in 4th generation • Objects can be readable, recognizable, locatable, addressable, and controllable via the Internet. • 99 percent of things in the physical world are still unconnected • Internet of Things (IoT) is a subset of IoE source: Dr. Emami, “An Application Space for ULP”

Definitions of the IoT • ITU-T • A global infrastructure for the information society, enabling advanced services by interconnecting (physical and virtual) things based on, existing and evolving, interoperable information and communication technologies [ITU-T Y.2060] • FP7 • A global network infrastructure, linking physical and virtual objects through the exploitation of data capture and communication capabilities [EU FP7 CASAGRAS] • IETF • a world-wide network of interconnected objects uniquely addressable, based on standard communication protocols [draft-lee-iot-problem-statement-05.txt]
