4. I am so excited to welcome you all to the start of new session Jul-Dec 2016. • We congratulate 1st year students of batch 2016-19 for making a right decision of choosing PIET as one of the career anchors in fulfilling your dreams. We have had a record number of applicants for admission to our BBA program this year. The competition for a place in BBA program is on the rise. We know, the competition will continue to grow as we continue to increase our competitiveness both locally and internationally. • The best thing is that we attract students from diverse backgrounds and experiences which add to the cross cultural learning here. We are one of the most reputed business schools in Haryana and Delhi NCR and provide learning through guest lectures, case studies, workshops, industrial visits and educational tours. Our campus is cosmopolitan and curriculum is rich in content. We assure each student with a capability to reach across borders to address challenges and evolve with action oriented approach.

5. Our message to the 1st year students is that this year the journey that you have embarked on is full of challenges, face it cheerfully. Your senior classmates will be the biggest source of learning. Leverage their experience and knowledge and create your own footsteps. • We congratulate our 2nd year students on becoming senior batch now. Becoming senior throws not only opportunities but also responsibility. They have the biggest responsibility to carry on the legacy of BBA department. • We welcome 3rd year students who have just returned from their 6 - 8 weeks of summer training in company of repute. This is their first interface with corporate world and I am sure that it has been a good learning experience for all of you. Usually those students who excel during summer training also do well during final placement. We hope you all are meeting time lines of completing your project work. Feel free to discuss with your mentors on project work on regular basis and seek their guidance to do a qualitative job.

6. As we enter the new session July – Dec 2016, ourBBA faculty and students have positioned themselves to make BBA at PIET best place to incubate their managerial and leadership skills. We congratulate all stakeholders of BBA PIET in becoming one of the largest Business school departments with record 800+ students. The best part of this aspect is that the team of most competent faculties and students are erasing boundaries on the map of knowledge. • We expect all of you to respect yourselves, to follow protocol in addressing administrative and academic matters, pursue excellence in your academic endeavors and to be accountable for your roles as students. • Wishing you all the best for new academic year!!

Editorial Team’s View This is the first magazine release of the new semester and it brings you NEWS about happenings at PIET so as to update your information about the institute and BBA department. We at PIET prepare students to live lives of leadership and good for the common and to meet challenges of professional world. These days people question the value of a college degree. I can’t say about all colleges in the vicinity, but at PIET you get value for money which comes in the form of personality transformation and campus placement. We teach you to think critically and communicate cogently. This issue focuses on 19 University Positions. Wishing you the best of times academically and forthcoming annual events, a blend of education and entertainment for a balanced personality.

9. Veenu Mam Farewell 14 May, 2016 It was a day of bidding adieu to a wonderful teacher of Statistics, Veenu Mam, who bade good bye to PIET for family circumstances. We would all miss her contribution in the short span.

10. Sonia Mam Farewell 18 May 2016 Dr. Sonia Sardana, a dedicated teacher of Economics, left PIET for good reasons as she got married all of a sudden. She would be remembered for her positive attitude and participation in most departmental activities.

13. 25 May 2016 3rd year one day trip SKI INDIA, Noida A CHILLED WARM FAREWELL It was the day out for BBA 3rd year pass out students to SKI India to make them have a feel of the life of Indian Army personnel posted at high altitudes. How they would be living in minus temperature day and night.

14. Summer Training Workshop An inhouse workshop was organised by Dr. Bhajan Lal under the guidance of Prof Kataria, HOD BBA, to apprise the students on the modalities of project work and report presentation. It was a learning session for the students and teachers as well knowing the intricacies of the project reports and their importance in professional life as ‘report making is an important aspect of management and business communication.

20. July 11th to 13th were slated for the orientation program of new BBA students, who were given a warm welcome by their senior students under the guide lines of Prof. Yoginder Kataria, HOD BBA and his team of faculty members, who all contributed to the show in their own way and style. Each one of the new comers was presented with a kit containing literature on college and a list of ‘Rules and Regulations’ to be followed without exception. And the most valuable was a legendry book ‘How to Win Friends….” By Dale Carnegie.

22. The opening of the day was full of fun and motivation as the lead was taken by ‘Confluence Team’ who was invited by PIET to make the new day lively and fun filled. The new comers seemed full of ‘spark’ which was the outcome of a thought process of ‘how my college would be like’, ‘how about the auditorium and my class mates’ and ‘my teachers’. Prof. Kataria, while addressing the fresher lot said that let this ‘spark’ in you never die if you want to be happy most of the time. Give this spark the fuel of your innocence and guard it against the storms of frustration that may come up from time to time.

23. Shri Rakesh Tayal, Member BOG PIET involved the students in his interactive talk, which is his unique way to build roads leading to the hearts. He advised the young aspirants to use this pre-paid sim card of life in their best way because even the validity time of the card is not known to us. While doing our work seriously we must find time to play and be happy, enjoy the most time of those 2000 weekends which “you still have to your credit”. You can do it by avoiding frustrationfor no reasons as it does not help to solve problems. He said, “It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to PIET with the commitment to providing quality and holistic education and training. If you study hard, you can improve your rank. If you make an effort to interact with people, you will do better in interviews. If you practice, your cricket will get better. The moral is keep striving for that next level. To nurture, always have goals. It is human nature to strive, improve and achieve full potential. In fact, that is success”

24. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Dr. K KPaliwal, Director PIET Said, “Don’t be serious, but sincere. Don’t just have career or academic goals, set goals to give you a balanced, successful life and being balanced is more important than success. Merit and hard work is not always linked to achievement in the short term, but the long term correlation is high. . This day is about you, you, who have come to this college to become something in your life. What you want, what you believe in, what makes you feel, may be different from even the people closest to you.” The three day long session passed off like a hurricane leaving behind a mixture of feelings and emotions to last for long time in life, the first day in an elite college called PIET.

26. 12 July Tree plantation While PIET is known for not only its quality education and all round personality development drives but also always a step ahead in social, national and international burning issues. This year the second day of BBA fresher induction programme was linked to ‘GO GREEN’ global drive and to be a part of it some 100 saplings were planted within the campus and in the adjoining village. 29. Excursion Tour 1 As a part of education it is a tradition to take the students on trips which are a blend of enjoyment, learning and getting tuned to their teachers and class mates. It was a good time for all. 32. NSS 25JULY 1ST Day An NSS camp had been organized from 25th July to 31st July by the name of ‘UJJAWAL 2K16’ where in hundreds of students from various institutes participated and carried out different exercises. It was the first of its kind event happening at PIET and hence a new enthusiasm was prevalent all round the campus. The camp was declared open by Shri Rakesh Tayal, memebr BOG and Prof. Dr. K K Paliwal, Director PIET,. Shri Rakesh Tayal said, “I am delighted at the initiative of the PIET students and teachers to celebrate NSS week and it would be all the more exciting in the coming times to meet fellow volunteers at the same platform again. NSS is a wonderful tool for the countries which are still grappling with enormity of the development challenges. Students are a community which is much more easily motivated and learn better when confronted with real life problems. At the same time their awareness level about community and the world is enhanced to a greater level. They also attain a better level of owing responsibilities.”

35. 31st July NSS Last Day The last day was again of immense importance when Shri Ashish Arora,’ Group A’ Officer, Ministry of Labour & Employment, New Delhi said, “The very watch word ‘NOT ME BUT YOU’ reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service. It simply conveys the message that welfare of an individual is ultimately welfare of the society and then nation. The symbol of the NSS is a replica of the chariot (RATH) wheel of the famous Sun Temple of Konark which portrays the cycle of ‘creation, preservation and release signifying the movement of life across time and space. It is also the symbol of progressive cycle of life. With reference to NSS it means continuous transformation and upliftment of society. He further added that he was happy to visit Institute of Engineering and Technology with a world class infrastructure and a strong based management which works for the betterment of the students and have a ‘career focussed’ approach.

39. Technology is killing human imagination! Ms Pooja Gupta

40. Noted scientist and thinker Albert Einstein has stressed that imagination is more important than knowledge. This is because knowledge is limited to what is known and understood while imagination embraces the world and points to all there ever will be to know and understand.But technology has changed the way people approach everything from online sales to writing. Has technology changed us for the better or the worse when it comes to furthering the cause of the human imagination? Let us explore the depth of the issue underlying the tradeoff between creativity and technology.

41. Yes, technology has replaced creativity with piracy. 1. Computing has replaced creativity- Computers and the never-ending use of technology have limited the sphere of knowledge and creativity to the screen. This has lowered the application of human creativity and imagination in all spheres. 2. These are no longer original -Any thesis or academic writing is no longer original because the computer and the internet has made it easy to access academic information at any given point in time. This restricts human imagination and creativity in academic settings. Replication of information has become easy and intellectual data theft is rampant thanks to technology

42. 3. Piracy has become widespread - Perhaps the biggest obstacle in giving a free rein to human imagination has been the use of pirated software and products in the market. Data theft has become a common problem across creative fields such as movie making and fiction writing thanks to piracy and the influx of technology. Software packages are also replicated causing tremendous losses in terms of reduced programming creativity and revenue damage.4. Technology has made mass scale replication possible -Technology has made it possible to replicate on a mass scale, and this mass market production limits the role of human creativity and imagination in every field from education to science and manufacturing.

43. 5. Technology has stifled creativity - Thanks to the presence of graphics software and other technological advancements, creativity and originality have gone for a toss. Replicating the Mona Lisa or Van Gogh’s Sunflowers is now possible with the click of a mouse. 6. Special effects cancel out human imagination and creativity - Technology has mechanised everything from music to film making and there is no scope for innovation or human creativity to take flight. Technology has deadened the creative process through short cuts in production methods which create artificial offerings that cannot match the originality of past products. From recycled plots to fake special effects, the entertainment and mass media industry has undergone a negative change thanks to technology.

44. No, technology improves communication and gets new ideas! 1. Technology is a platform for talent - Technology has made many innovations possible in fields as diverse as music, entertainment and film-making. It has expanded the scope and power of human imagination by enhancing the limits to which one can go in the creative process. 2. From health to science, technology has made innovation possible -Technology has furthered the cause of human innovation and imagination in fields as far apart as philosophy and molecular biology. Advancement of technologies has also helped in the growth of the health sector and enabled healthcare to become life prolonging. Using scientific creativity and human innovation, biotechnology has revolutionised the field of pharma and healthcare.

45. 3. Technology helps human imagination to grow - Technology is not limiting creativity; rather it is helping this to grow. This is because technology helps businesses to grow and expand thereby becoming more capable of providing scope for the full potential of human creativity.4. Communication becomes easier, imagination gets a boost - Technology has also boosted communication which facilitates creativity through the spread of knowledge and ideas across the globe. Sharing ideas is the key to forming insights, and many famous inventors have taken inspiration from past innovations. Technology has quickened the pace of communication and provided online knowledge industry which is thriving and enhancing human creativity by leaps and bounds.

46. Conclusion Technology has only unleashed the power and potential of human creativity and imagination. From making films and documentaries to composing great works of music and art to even scientific innovations, technology has liberated human imagination and provided a complete scope for aiding the creativity of man. Only societies which are progressive and technologically advanced can hope to tap the power of human creativity. There is no room in today’s world for outdated methods. Across a globe where technology is even used to fight elections and wars, the cause of human imagination can be advanced through the progress and growth of technology. To see technology as a counter to human creativity is to misunderstand its very essence- which is the expansion of innovation that gives a free rein to human imagination

47. Make in India or Invent in India- Which is more important? Dr Preeti

48. At the 103rd Indian Science Congress, 4 out of 5 Nobel laureates indicated that Make in India mantra should change to Invent in India for attaining greater heights. The leaders of the academic world felt that India should focus on discovering and inventing, not just making on its own. So, which is a better pitch for expanding the field of the Indian growth story? Make in India or Invent in India? When it comes to the future of the country, is the Make in India mantra the right path for success on the road to economic evolution? Let’s find out what the knowledge pundits say and how far it makes sense for India.

49. Invent in India should be the mantra! 1. India should focus on discovering - Discovery and inventions enable that products can be made within the country. This ensures that whether we want to pursue Make in India or associated programs like Digital India and Start Up India, India must first discover inventions that are of importance. 2. More takers for science - Invent in India will galvanise more takers for science in the field. Science is to be taught at a young age so that talent can be caught on early. Invent in India has the power to make brain drain into brain gain for the country, thereby paving the way to prosperity.

50. 3. Inventions need to be passed onto startups for growth - Inventions need to be drawn from universities and passed on to start ups and this will encourage talent in abundance. Engineering may be a popular choice, but it is ultimately science which drives the engineering. The need for cultural change will only be met if science is encouraged in schools, colleges and universities. 4. Need for thrust on indigenous innovations and inventions - Make in India should be replaced by Discover, Invent and Make in India because in order to make in India you need to invent first. To invent, there is need for more scientific discoveries in India so that the nation can focus on new inventions, technologies and products which equip it to compete on the world stage.
