Summer Reading Students will be reading novels from a Menu of Books No written assignments/project before school Keep notes throughout the summer (themes, characters, etc.) Community Literature Circles when you return to school - be prepared to contribute as they will be graded! Themes: Courage, Friendship and Community Find all details on STS website: Parents ----> Summer Reading/Math

Summer Math Students will be completing designated sections from IXL We recommend to space out the sections Sections will have “stars” Must be completed before first day of school (8/25 11:59pm) Completion grade Find all details on STS website: Parents ----> Summer Reading/Math (posted last week of school)

Uniform details - refer to handbook online Boys • Khaki pants • White short/long sleeve collared shirt • Middle school tie • Sperry’s Billfish 3-eyed Boat Shoe (6-eyelets) in Tan Beige (smaller size is the Gamefish Boat Shoe in Dark Tan) • Navy/Tan socks • Navy ½ zipped fleece Girls • Plaid kilt - 5 in above knee • White short/long sleeve collared shirt • Navy knee socks / tights • Sperry’s Songfish in Linen Oat (older version is the Rosefish in Linen Oat) • Navy ½ zipped fleece ***Friday May 24th - Flynn/O’hara at School***

HW • Take a note of HW • Backup plan: online • No HW weekends - except advanced math Procedures/Expectations • Different personalities /styles • Similar procedures (HW, grading, etc.) • Similar Expectations Talk to teachers • Homeroom - main point of contact • Subject particular - talk to teacher • After school help • Ask questions during homeroom Lockers • Homeroom - coat/backpack • Locker - books/supplies • Next year: more transition time / less stuff to carry

Back to School Timeline 6th grade orientation - parents Back to School Picnic 6th grade orientation - students Working on plans for a back to school picnic/get together At the same time, parents may attend a special parent orientation and panel for Q & A about middle school Meet the teacher day will include special time for 6th graders to get to know each other, set up lockers, get familiar with middle school
