  3. Roosevelt uses Fireside Chats • Makes Americans feel like he is talking directly to them. Explains Banks. • Regulating Banks • Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation: Insures Bank Accounts to $5,000. • Federal Securities Act creates Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to regulate stock market.

  4. Helping Americans • Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA) • Raise farm prices by reducing crops • Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) • Build dams in the Tennessee Valley • Civilian Conservation Corps • Young people work restoring environment. • Public Works Administration (PWA) part of National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA) and Civil Works Administration • All created to put people to work and pay them to build public works.

  5. More Alphabet Soup • National Recovery Administration (NRA) • Set prices and wages at fair rates. • Housing and Home Mortgage Problems • Home Owners Loan Corp (HOLC) • Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA) • $500 million provided as direct aid for the needy.
