  3. HIGHER CHINESE Paper 1: 2009:Titled Essay provide 4 guidelines for students to follow. 2010:Titled essay to be in line with the given scenarios.

  4. HIGHER CHINESE Paper 1 Example: 2009 Title : I have made a right choice 1) What happened? 2) What choice did you make? 3) What happened in the end? 4) How do you feel about the choice that you have made?

  5. HIGHER CHINESE Paper 1 Example: 2010 Title : An incident that happened in the hawker centre The hawker centre is a place where Singaporeans frequently visit as there is a variety of food there, and prices are affordable. Write about an incident that you have seen in the hawker centre.

Higher Chinese • Items such as “Filling in the main points” is taken out. • Cloze passage is retained。 • An increase in the number of open ended cloze passages. 1.There may be more than one answers, but it is within the ability of the students 2. Contents of passages may be adapted from news or short stories。

Higher Chinese • No of articles is reduced,Total no. of questions is also reduced,and there will be no more multiple choices. • Purpose of change is to assess students memory ,comprehension skills ,and the ability to grasp and apply their knowledge. • (questions may come in a variety eg, mind maps.) • Passage 2 includes assessing of analytical, judgment and creative skills. ( Students must have the ability to grasp the main gist of the passage , and the questions include 2 sentence constructions using the vocabularies in the passage )

  11. Chinese 2009 PAPER 1: Q2) Titled composition: I did something that I shouldn’t do You have always like to help people but today you did something that you should not have done. Elaborate on how it happened and the consequences. This are some of the points you can refer to when writing the essay. 1) When and where did it happened? 2) Why did you do it? 3) What is the consequences of your action? 4) What did you learn from this ?

Chinese 2010 PAPER 1: Q2) Titled composition: I was late When you are writing your essay, this are some of the points you can refer to. 1) When and where did it happened? 2) Why were you late? 3) How did you feel? 4) What happened in the end? 5) Talk about how you feel about the whole incident.

Chinese • Hanyupinyin • Similar Words • Choosing of vocabularies. • Choosing the correct sentences • Comprehension passage 1-passages can be adapted from(news articles, notices,advertisements,instructional manual, charts and etc) • Comprehension passage 2 includes explaining the vocabularies, and requires more analytical skills as personal opinions and open-ended questions are asked.

  16. Chinese Picture Conversation • Description of the Picture • To express their opinions, feelings about content in the pictures • To focus on one area on character on the picture and elaborate on their description. To talk about their opinion and feelings

  17. CHINESE Conversation • Changes in conversation format(what in the picture attracts you the most?) • Conversation topic is related to the picture. eg if it is a picture of a park, questions may be: • Have you ever been to any parks in Singapore? • Why do you like going to the park?

  19. FOUNDATION CL Reading Comprehension • There will be a paper 2 component which consists of 5 multiple questions ( 3 choices). Passage 1 will be an advertisement Passage 2 will be a notice. Passage 3 will be a short story. Total 10 marks.

  21. FOUNDATION CL Oral Component /Picture Description Students are required to describe the contents in the picture . They also have to express their opinions and feelings. They can focus on describing one area or character in the picture,and elaborate on their opinions and feelings.

  22. FOUNDATION CL Oral Component /Conversation • Students will be given a conversation topic that • is the related to the picture. • eg If the picture is a park, question may be : • 1) Do you like going to the park? • 2) What activities do you usually carry out in the • park?

  23. FOUNDATION CL Oral Component /Reading Aloud • Passage to be read is different from Chinese • Length of passage will be about 110- 130 words. • Students should read with emotions and clarity. • Total : 20 marks

  24. FOUNDATION CL Listening component • It will consist of 5-7 short passages • Items tested :1) hanyupinyin ( 2questions) • 2) Short stories, advertisements, • notices, dialogues and etc. • Assessment mode : Multiple Choice ( 3 choices for each questions) • Total of 15 questions ( 2marks each)

  25. FOUNDATION CL Listening component • It will consist of 5-7 short passages • Items tested :1) hanyupinyin ( 2questions) • 2) Short stories, advertisements, • notices, dialogues and etc. • Assessment mode : Multiple Choice ( 3 choices for each questions)
