  1. The Dutch and America: An Overview Lindsey Loubier Alec Demetrius Colleen Hussey

  2. The Dutch and America… • A part of our project was to research and create a poster board on the Dutch and America. We presented the differences, why the Dutch immigrated to America, Stereotypes for both cultures, and the hardships the Dutch immigrants had when they came over to America.

  3. The Dutch and America… • For our project, we talked about why the Dutch immigrated over. It was mostly because of World War II. After the war was over, many people moved into the Netherlands which caused overpopulation, so the government started to encourage people to immigrated over to the United States where they could lead better lives.

  4. The Dutch and America… Another part of our project was to talk about the stereotypes and hardships that the Dutch faced when they came over. Many people thought and still think that the Netherlands is a place where you can get drugs legally so everyone does them, which isn’t true. Many people also thought of them as people with wooden shoes and big, puffy dresses which isn’t completely true either. Even though the Americans were not racially discriminating the Dutch, it did not matter. They were still seen as “different.”

  5. The Dutch and America… • This part of our project had to do with how the Dutch contributed to American society. For example, many houses in America have Dutch architecture or originated in the Netherlands. Also, Dutch Harbor in Alaska was named after the Dutch because they were the first people to sail through the area. Dutch Harbor benefits Alaska’s economy immensely.

  6. The Dutch and America… • This part of our project was focused on Dutch-American relationship. We found out that the Dutch and America actually have holidays together such as “Dutch-American Heritage Day.” Another famous holiday is “Dutch-American Friendship day.” We also found out that there were many famous Dutch people in America such as Theodore Roosevelt, Brue Springsteen, Billy Joe Armstrong and Thomas Edison.
