  1. Impact of HCI By: Amina Ahmed

  2. Introduction • HCI is an important field of study and development in today’s day and age • With technology becoming the norm and being increasingly used by everyone, the subject helps in improving interactivity between the two: human and computers. • It helps in develop the user friendliness of machines used all over the world. Use the navigation buttons below to read more about HCI and how it has an impact on modern economy, society and culture. GUI Impact of HCI Economy Impact of HCI on Society Impact of HCI Culture

  3. GUI • GUI, Graphical User Interface, is an interactive way whereby users can interact with technology • Devices that use GUI’s include computers, cameras, tablets, MP3’s, etc. • Interacting with GUI’s is done through simple devices such as a keyboard or mouse but touchscreens are increasingly being used NEXT

  4. Technology is taking over…! BACK NEXT

  5. Impact of HCI on Economy • HCI has had an enormous impact on the economy. Both disadvantages and advantages of HCI can be seen with the increasing technology coming out every day • HCI makes life easier for everyone and saves time too but it also means that technology is taking over many jobs of the people who really need it • For example, with the introduction of online shopping, many stores are closing down and due to it many hundreds of people are losing their jobs and being forced to either live on benefits or in poverty BACK NEXT

  6. Impact of HCI on Economy • Though we say that technology saves us time, we see now that we have less time than our ancestors in reality • ‘I don’t have time’ is what everyone seems to be saying because they are too busy using social networks and playing games on their hand-held devices • However, for those still in work, HCI has made things very much easier for them • Where before everything had to be typed up with a typewriter (any mistake and you had to start over again) today we have brilliant software that help us create and share documents, pictures and everything else BACK NEXT

  7. Impact of HCI on Society • With the coming out of social networking sites such as Skype, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. people have started to use these for interaction with friends and family and have stopped face-to-face interaction • This is not healthy for humans, especially children, as it makes them shy and unable to then meet people and interact with them (for example, a job interview) • However, for students and teachers the increasing HCI helps in education with interactive boards and other such devices that aid in education BACK NEXT

  8. Impact of HCI on Culture • There is only one thing to say for the culture of today – there is no culture • With technology taking over everything that a human does, people have forgotten their culture • Where people would travel across the world to learn about and experience other cultures now we can go on the internet and see the same things • This has both a good side and a bad side since it is easier and obviously much cheaper though the quality of the experience is lower than actually going there and living it BACK
