Plot notes • Describe Kate’s character: violently aggressive, rude, • Describe the family dynamics between Kate, Bianca and mom: mom favors Bianca, mom and Bianca both frivolous, rich people, Bianca’s known for beauty, Kate known for work, mom and Bianca both insult Kate and don’t care • Describe Petruchio’s character: aggressive, rude, loud, brash

  5. Elevator Scene: Petruchio says he likes “everything” about Kate, he finds her plucky, fun, exciting, sexy. This is a shock to him to find he likes her; he says he never thought about who his kind of woman was- she’s his equal and not afraid of him- The complements are new for her. Complementing Kate is something Shakespeare’s Petruchio does to show Kate how she could be. Consider that character traits have postive and negative sides. Ambition and aggression can be positive qualities in her job. • Park Bench Scene: she smiles when he calls, he’s honest with her about his debts, and Harry telling her he should marry her. He saysthat it was a joke but has taken on a “whole new complexion”, he has a title which will help her politically. • The Wedding: Petruchio doesn’t want to wear the suit because he wants to be honest about who he is, he shows up in women’s clothes, she doesn’t want to marry him but he points out that it will make her look bad-indecisive- to the public and that she should act like she knew all along. She marries him with intention to divorce. • The Airport: In response to her wanting to divorce he says the best thing she can do is look forward to a long and interestingmarriage to a man who will conquer worlds for her. She pulls out of the leadership race, Petruchio calls Harry and says he is going to “tame” her.
