  4. The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere On the night of April 18/19, 1775, Paul began his “Midnight Ride”. He and William Dawes were instructed to warn the Bostonian patriots and to warn John Hancock and Samuel Adams. Dr. Warren sent Paul across the Charles River to the opposite shore where he can begin his ride to Lexington. Days before April 18, Paul instructed Robert Newman the sexton of the Old North Church to send a signal by lantern to alert the Charlestown colonist the movements of the British troops. The lantern code was “one if by land, two if by sea”. Revere then rode and he did NOT say “the British are coming” because this mission depended on it’s secrecy.

  5. The Midnight Ride continues Then Revere rode to Concord, where the militia’s arsenal (A place of storage for military arms or guns). They were joined by Dr. Prescott, Revere, Dawes, and Prescott were captured by British troops at a road block on the way to Concord. Dawes and Prescott escaped while Paul was escorted back to Lexington by gunpoint. The warning by the three riders successfully allowed the militia to repel against the British in Concord.
