Example question: How similar are 2 partitions? ex/ single-link: (S&C, Lux, SUV, Sports)(truck)(4wd)(hybrid)(conv) complete-link: (S&C, Lux, SUV, hybrid, Sports)(truck, 4wd, conv) average-link: (S&C, Lux, SUV, Sports)(hybrid)(truck, 4wd, conv) measure of partition similarity (Hubert and Arabie, 1985, J of Classification): regression-based (i.e., directional) use 1 (complete-link) to predict another (average-link), not necessarily same results as if used average-link to predict complete-link.
