  2. Introduction to SketchUp 8 • While watching the video, think about… • How could you tell the artist changed his idea for the building? • What is an advantage to using SketchUp to design the building instead of hand drawing?

  4. CAD Workstation Includes: • Computer • Keyboard • Display Screen • Drawing Tablet • Plotter

  5. Advantages of CAD • Faster to draft and design at one time • More accurate and less errors • Less time to change or improve design • Provides a list of parts and the cost • Identifies strengths and weaknesses • Documents ideas • Shares work

  6. Possible Disadvantages to CAD • Too Easy to Use • Design technology that is not possible to make • May Take Longer • Easy to spend too much time playing with aspects • Some Restrictions • Can’t do everything

  7. Activity • If you took Tech Ed last year… • use the instructions to make a farm. • If you did NOT take Tech Ed last year… • complete Start Drawing Part 1 together.

  8. Closing • Name two advantages to using CAD instead of traditional drawing. • Use two examples from what you designed today (either the farm or the house) to support your answer. • Write in complete sentences.

  13. Importing Images on SketchUp • Use the PowerPoint instructions to learn how to import images on SketchUp. • Your final product will consist of two billboards. • One billboard will show the mascot and school information • One billboard will advertise a club or class offered at the school.

  14. Closing • Write one tip that you could give someone when first starting SketchUp 8. • Good Example: (you can’t use this) • Use the tape measure to double check measurements. • Bad Example: • “Work hard” or “Take your time”
