  2. Professional Development Award (PDA) What is a PDA? Who can apply for a PDA? How to apply for a PDA? Requirements? What can be reimbursed? What cannot be reimbursed? What amount is reimbursed? How are PDA funds awarded? Application Deadlines
  3. What is PDA? Professional Development Award (PDA) is a competitive award for students to attend and/or present their research at a professional level conference in their field. It motivates students by providing financial assistance to help offset the cost of travelling to t\he conference. * Students presenting at a conference will be given preference over students who just wish to attend a conference.
  4. Eligibility for PDA application Engineering Global Studies Education All graduate students at UMass Lowell who are in good standing may apply for a PDA award. Physics Music Work Environment Psychology Public Health
  5. How are PDA funds awarded? The PDA budget is based on funds available from the GSA budget. PDA’s are awarded on a first come first serve basis. Only one PDA award is awarded per student per academic year. PDA Applications are reviewed by a PDA committee. PDA committee members are graduate student volunteers. A ideal committee consists of members from different colleges and departments. Students interested in serving on the PDA committee should contact Smita Birkar or Vishal Bavishi.   6. How to apply for PDA? Forms are available at the GSA web site: www.uml.edu/gsa Fill the Travel Authorization and Liability Waiver forms. Fill the PDA application and Travel Reimbursement forms Submit the completed PDA application to GSA office, Kitson 300, North Campus in clearly labeled envelopes
  7. Requirements MUST submit completed Travel Authorization and Liability Waiver forms to Debbie White (820 Broadway, South Campus)before leaving for your conference or the PDA CANNOT be approved. SAVE ALL TRAVEL RECEIPTS! Original receipts must be submitted with Travel Reimbursement form. (Make copies of all the documents and receipts for your records) A copy of your credit card statement must be submitted. (Cross out all but the last four digits of your credit card number.)
  8. What can be reimbursed? Transportation Lodging Mileage Conference registration fees
  9. What cannot be reimbursed? Food Entertainment costs Gasoline Payments made BY/TO a‘third party’
  10. Maximum Amount Reimbursed? Students who are presenting $500 Students who are just attending* $250 * Students presenting at a conference will be given preference over students who just wish to attend a conference.
  11. Amount Available Fall 2013 $4,100 Spring 2014 $4,100 TOTAL: $8,200
  12. When are the deadlines for applying? Fall 2013 Spring 2014 TBD Friday,25th October Friday,29th November Friday,13th December
  13. Announcements A PDA Information Session for graduate students interested in applying will be held once each semester.
